MECA bans ex­port of wood and char­coal

The Min­istry of En­vi­ron­ment and Cli­mate Af­fairs has pro­hib­ited the ex­port of chopped wood and char­coal with ef­fect from July 31. The min­istry has fur­ther is­sued reg­u­la­tions for stream­lin­ing the sec­tor.

In a new Min­is­te­rial De­ci­sion (No 65/2017) is­sued on July 30, the min­istry is­sued new reg­u­la­tions for cut­ting wood and mak­ing char­coal. The de­ci­sion stated that it is pro­hib­ited to ex- port chopped wood and char­coal, in ad­di­tion to pro­hibit­ing cut­ting wood and mak­ing char­coal from the state-owned prop­er­ties, with­out a per­mit from the min­istry.

The de­ci­sion also stated that the per­mits for the pur­pose are granted by the min­istry to cit­i­zens who ei­ther fall un­der so­cial se­cu­rity scheme, or those who do not have jobs and are younger than 30 years or those work­ers or re­tirees that have a monthly in­come of not more than RO350.
