MECA bans export of wood and charcoal
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs has prohibited the export of chopped wood and charcoal with effect from July 31. The ministry has further issued regulations for streamlining the sector.
In a new Ministerial Decision (No 65/2017) issued on July 30, the ministry issued new regulations for cutting wood and making charcoal. The decision stated that it is prohibited to ex- port chopped wood and charcoal, in addition to prohibiting cutting wood and making charcoal from the state-owned properties, without a permit from the ministry.
The decision also stated that the permits for the purpose are granted by the ministry to citizens who either fall under social security scheme, or those who do not have jobs and are younger than 30 years or those workers or retirees that have a monthly income of not more than RO350.
