Sultanate’s first water park to open in Salalah in December
With a capacity to accommodate 500 people, the park includes a kids’ pool, lazy river, water house pool and a spa pool
The first water park of the sultanate, coming up at a 35,000sq m area near Ittin Recreation Centre in Salalah, will open its doors in December this year.
H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, toured the water park site on Saturday.
“The project, implemented by a local investment company, is expected to open in December 2017,” the ministry stated.
The park located across the Iittin Recreation Centre, popu-
larly known as Salalah Tourism Festival ground, will have a host of water sports and entertainment facilities making it a daylong family affair.
With a capacity to accommodate 500 people every day, the park includes sections like a kids’ pool, lazy river, water house pool, wave pool and spa pool. The water house pool and kids’ pool would have an area of 1,975sq m.
Along the eastern side of the park, a 330m long lazy river will run across making it a standout feature of the park. Located in the middle of the park, the wave pool would be spread over 3,246sq m. While the wave pool would be the biggest pool in the park, the spa pool, which lies in the north-west of the park, would be in an area of 1,240sq m.
The park would have a combination of slides, providing an option for different age groups.
The second stage of the project, which includes a five-star hotel, commercial complex, multipurpose hall, restaurants as well as construction of administration building, service facilities and parking, was awarded in January this year to Wasal Development and Investment Company.
The agreement also includes management, operation and maintenance of the two stages of the project for a period of 25 years.
