Ev­i­dence-based medicine work­shop or­gan­ised

MUSCAT: The Min­istry of Health (MoH), rep­re­sented by the Di­rec­torate Gen­eral of Spe­cialised Med­i­cal Care (DGSMC), the Ther­a­peu­tic Ser­vices De­vel­op­ment Sec­tion, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Sul­tan Qa­boos Univer­sity or­gan­ised on Mon­day at the Con­tin­u­ing Pro­fes­sional De­vel­op­ment Cen­ter a work­shop on the Ev­i­dence-Based Medicine. The two-day work­shop aims at learn­ing the prac­tice of ev­i­dence based medicine, de­vel­op­ing, teach­ing, and pro­mot­ing ev­i­dence-based health­care through a va­ri­ety of meth­ods, as well as creat­ing an ev­i­dence based medicine com­mu­nity and fa­cil­i­tate net­work­ing and re­sources shar­ing be­tween in­di­vid­u­als and hos­pi­tals.

Dr Mat­loba al Za­jali, Head of Ther­a­peu­tic Ser­vices De­vel­op­ment pointed out in her wel­com­ing speech to the aims and ba­sis of the work­shop. The work­shop dis­cusses sev­eral is­sues on prin­ci­ples & ba­sic prac­tices of ev­i­dence based medicine, types & sources of lit­er­a­tures, for­mu­lat­ing re­search ques­tions and find­ing the best ev­i­dence and the way of ap­prais­ing var­i­ous type of stud­ies in­clud­ing ran­domised con­trol tri­als, di­ag­nos­tic stud­ies, prog­nos­tic stud­ies, and meta-anal­y­sis of sys­tem­atic re­views.
