Sul­tanate, Cyprus re­view eco­nomic re­la­tions

Yahya bin Said al Jabri, Chair­man of the Board of Di­rec­tors of the Special Eco­nomic Zone Au­thor­ity in Duqm (SEZAD), on Tues­day held talks with Demetris Syl­louris, Speaker of the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the Repub­lic of Cyprus, cur­rently vis­it­ing the Sul­tanate.

The meet­ing re­viewed the eco­nomic re­la­tions be­tween the Sul­tanate and the Repub­lic of Cyprus, and their ef­forts to en­cour­age busi­ness­peo­ple to form eco­nomic part­ner­ships that con­trib­ute to en­hanc­ing trade ex­change.

The meet­ing also touched on the pro­mo­tion cam­paign or­gan­ised by the SEZAD in the Repub­lic of Cyprus last May, which helped in­form the Cypriot busi­ness com­mu­nity about the in­vest­ment cli­mate in the Sul­tanate in gen­eral, the Special Eco­nomic Zone in Duqm (SEZD) in par­tic­u­lar, and the eco­nomic projects in the Sul­tanate.

Al Jabri af­firmed the keen­ness of the Sul­tanate to at­tract var­i­ous in­vest­ments. He pointed out that SEZD of­fers many in­cen­tives and fa­cil­i­ties for in­vestors, such as tax ex­emp­tions, land usufruct for pe­ri­ods of up to 50 years, and pro­vi­sion of many ser­vices to in­vestors through the one-stop shop to men­tion only a few.

The Cypriot Speaker ex­pressed his ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the Sul­tanate’s ef­forts to pro­mote de­vel­op­ment in var­i­ous fields ex­press­ing the hope that the mu­tual vis­its be­tween the two sides will en­hance bi­lat­eral re­la­tions be­tween the two friendly coun­tries.

VIS­ITS SAF MU­SEUM: Mean­while, Demetris and his ac­com­pa­ny­ing del­e­ga­tion vis­ited the SAF Mu­seum.

Head of the SAF Mil­i­tary Pro­to­cols and Pub­lic Re­la­tions re­ceived the guest and his ac­com­pa­ny­ing del­e­ga­tion and es­corted them in a tour to var­i­ous sec­tions of the mu­seum.

The guest and his ac­com­pa­ny­ing del­e­ga­tion viewed the his­toric manuscripts and mod­els, as well as the Omani ar­chi­tec­ture in the Bait Al Falaj Cas­tle. They were also briefed on the progress en­joyed by SAF dur­ing the pros­per­ous reign of His Majesty Sul­tan Qa­boos, the Supreme Com­man­der of the Armed Forces.

At the end of the visit, the guest signed the vis­i­tor’s book, ex­press­ing his de­light to visit the SAF Mu­seum and view the beauty of the his­toric ar­chi­tec­ture, rich civil­i­sa­tional her­itage in the Sul­tanate and as­pects of progress and pros­per­ity it en­joys today.

Dr Ali bin Saud al Bi­mani, Vice-Chan­cel­lor of Sul­tan Qa­boos Univer­sity (SQU), also met with Demetris Syl­louris and his ac­com­pa­ny­ing del­e­ga­tion at the univer­sity head­quar­ters. The meet­ing re­viewed as­pects of co­op­er­a­tion be­tween the two sides.

The guest saw a pre­sen­ta­tion about the univer­sity in its var­i­ous units, colleges and cen­tres. He also vis­ited the Civil En­gi­neer­ing Depart­ment at the Col­lege of En­gi­neer­ing.
