Sultanate’s food commodity imports fell 3% to OMR1.13b

Total value of the Sultanate’s livestock imports during 2015 slipped to OMR69.9 million from OMR74.4 million in 2014, National Centre for Statistics and Informatio­n’s latest data shows

MUSCAT: The value of the Sultanate’s imports of food commoditie­s stood at OMR1.13 billion during 2015, compared with OMR1.19 billion during 2014, reflecting a 3.06 per cent decline, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Informatio­n (NCSI).

The value of exports and re-exports of food commoditie­s stood at OMR441.1 million during 2015, against OMR426.7 million during 2014, constituti­ng a 3.37 per cent jump.

NCSI’s data also pointed out that the value of the Sultanate’s livestock imports during 2015 slipped to OMR69.9 million from OMR74.4 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same hit also slumped to OMR41.8 million in 2015, down from OMR48.9 million in 2014.

The Sultanate’s imports of meat and associated products stood at OMR137.5 million during 2015, up from OMR134.1 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same stood at OMR28.2 million in 2015, compared with OMR15.2 million during 2014.

The Sultanate’s imports of eggs and dairy products were pegged at OMR242.2 million in 2015, falling from OMR266.2 million a year ago. The value of exports and re-exports of the same also fell to OMR114.4 million in 2015, from OMR116.7 million during 2014.

Imports of fish

The value of the Sultanate’s imports of fish and associated products stood at OMR26 million in 2015, rising from OMR22.8 million during 2014. However, the value of exports and re-exports of the same dropped to OMR53.2 million in 2015, from OMR58.5 million during 2014.

The Sultanate’s imports of cereals and associated products stood at OMR281.3 million during 2015, compared with OMR271.8 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports for the same hit OMR102.09 million during 2015, compared with OMR91.6 million in 2014.

The Sultanate’s imports of fruits and vegetables hit OMR189.6 million in 2015, slumping from OMR210.4 million during 2014.

The value of exports and reexports of the same stood also slipped to OMR43.7 million in 2015 from OMR45.4 million during 2014.

The Sultanate’s imports of sugar, associated products and honey were OMR32.2 million in 2015 against OMR32.8 million during 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same stood at OMR4.3 million during 2015 against OMR2.9 million in 2014.

The Sultanate’s imports of coffee, tea, cacao and spices hit OMR60.8 million during 2015 compared with OMR71.2 million in 2014.

The value of exports and reexports of the same were OMR2.8 million in 2015, falling from OMR3.5 million during 2014.

The Sultanate’s imports of other foods were said to be OMR50.8 million during 2015, increasing from OMR48.9 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same stood also jumped to OMR40.8 million in 2015, from OMR38.07 million during 2014.

The value of animal food (excluding ground cereals) stood at OMR42.4 million during 2015 against OMR36 million in 2014. The value of exports and re-exports of the same hit OMR9.2 million in 2015 compared to OMR6.4 million during 2014.
