Bangladesh School Muscat sets new record in Edexcel exams
MUSCAT: Bangladesh School Muscat reported record breaking results in the latest International GCSE examinations, further cementing its high academic standards.
Students and staff at the school campus celebrated the outstanding results in their GCSE, AS and A-Level examinations for the Summer Session-2016.
The school was able to maintain high standards, with an overall pass percentage of 99.61 per cent. There were jubilant scenes on the school campus as students, along with their proud parents, found out about the results on the notice board. A total of 118 A*s, 127 As, 136 Bs, 91 Cs and 29 Ds were secured by the students, who took the GCSE exam. 47 students, among 91 students of the Summer-2016 batch got A*s in different subjects. Shifat Hossain, who bagged 8 A*s and 1 A grade in the GCSE examination, has achieved a new record in the history of the school.
“I feel blessed realising the dream of my late father. I express my deep gratitude to all those who have supported and guided me, and that includes the Principal, the Director of Educational Affairs and my dear teachers. I am indebted to my mother who supported and strengthened me during all difficult times,” said Hossain.
She was closely followed by Muntaser Maruf Bhuiyan and Fazilatun Nisa, who scored 5 A*s and 1 A. Next on the merit roll are Tanjima Khanam Ema, Nusrat Jahan, and Syed Mohammed Mazin with 5 A*s to their credit. Four A*s, along with other grades were achieved by Sayyida Tahmin, Neamul Islam, Jarin Tasnim, Sadia Binte Sekander, Abbas Uddin, Nayemul Islam and Israa Gabr. Seven students scored 2 A*s and 3 As each, while six others got 3 A*s each with other grades in different subjects.
An analysis of the overall results showed that in International GCSE, 23 per cent A*s, 25 per cent As, 26 per cent Bs and 18 per cent C grades were bagged by the students, who appeared in 517 subjects. A total of 29 A*s and 19 A grades were reported bagged in Chemistry, 26 A*s and 23 A grades were scored in Physics, while 23 A*s and 19 A grades are scored in Bangla. These three subjects displayed the highest score sheets.

“The results demonstrate how the school has provided inspiring teaching, learning and support, and our wards have worked extremely hard. They are now reaping the rewards for their efforts. Everyone involved can be very proud of their efforts and achievements as I am,” said Hasina Khanom, the proud mother of Shifat Hossain. In the International Advance Level (AS and A level) Examinations, 7 A*s and 28 A grades were obtained in aggregate. Nasir Hemed Khalfan got 2A*s 1 A, Samar El Sayed secured 2A*s 1 A grade, Nagat Gabr got 1 A* 2 As, making them the highest grade winners in the Science Stream of the A Level. In the Commerce Stream, Gulam Zilani scored 1 A* and 1 A grade and Fatema Ali scored 1 A* and 1 B grade.
Results were particularly strong in Chemistry and Mathematics at both the AS and A2 Levels. At the AS Level Chemistry 5A, 6B and 8C were achieved by the students, followed by 5A, 6B and 4C in Mathematics. In A-Level Mathematics, students excelled with 2A*, 3A and 4B. In terms of subjects, Accounting, Business Studies and Economics shone with 100 per cent success, both in the AS and ALevel Examinations. The Biology and Chemistry Department also excelled with a 100 per cent pass record in the A Level. Fine Arts students from AS Level also came out with an outstanding 100 per cent pass record.
A special meeting was convened, wherein Principal Lt-Col Mahmud Ul Alam lauded the hard work of the students in upholding the prestige of the school. He expressed his gratitude to the teachers for their sincere efforts on behalf of the Board of Directors and himself. “I congratulate my students and value their efforts in making us all proud. The remarkable thing about our students is not just their excellent academic ability, but also all extra-curricular activities in which they take part, often achieving extremely high standards in fields, from sport and music to quiz and art. This is the result of diligence and team work. I thank my eminent faculty without any reservations,” he added.
The Director of Academic Affairs, Major Nasir Ahmed in his speech expressed a sense of achievement and delight at the students attaining such a brilliant results. Thanking all stakeholders for the result, he said, “The students have risen to the challenge of International GCSEs with commitment and determination and I am delighted that all their hard work has been rewarded today. They really are renaissance students, who appreciate the importance of balance and the breadth of experience for a happy life. We are looking forward to the next stage of their educational journey.”
Members of the Board of Directors were also pleased with the result when it was submitted before the Board. Iftakher Ul Hasan Chowdhury, the chairman of the Board, praised the students on their outstanding performance. He also thanked the teachers whole heartedly for their dedicated service.
“While the school has maintained its record of a high overall pass percentage with top grades, it was the progress made by individuals that was most remarkable this year. It is very pleasing that exceptional progress reflected in these outcomes was not confined to the high achievers, but was enjoyed by students across all abilities.”
Delighted with the students’ success, Senior Section Head Rohana Kodikara said, “We are delighted that the improvement trend has been maintained. We emphasise on the attitude to learn, which has contributed to the students’ superb results. This has now put them in a good stead to stand out for higher studies.”
The head of departments and concerned teachers of different departments and section heads also expressed their unhindered joy and gratification.
