Trade seminar to focus on unhealthy practices
MUSCAT: A two-day seminar on unhealthy practices in international trade will be conducted by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates on September 25 at Knowledge Oasis Muscat. An expert from the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva will explain in detail the WTO conventions on subsidy, dumping and the increase in imports as per the WTO conventions. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has urged factories to take part in such programmes and seminars, especially the Sultanate has ratified the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Common Law on Anti-dumping, Countervailing Measures and Safeguards. When this law was enforced by the GCC States, the GCC Technical Secretariat initiated investigations in a number of complaints filed by some Gulf factories against imports from some foreign countries. The seminar will provide an opportunity for Omani factories to get insight about the measures related to filing complaints and how far the factories can protect their exports to the foreign markets. The Anti-Dumping Department at the Ministry will create direct communication channel with the Omani factories.
