Iconic Mut­trah Fish Mar­ket opens

MUSCAT: One of the most iconic land­marks in Muscat, the new Mut­trah Fish Mar­ket, opened its gates to ev­ery­one on Tues­day.

The Wali of Mut­trah and a num­ber of Muscat Mu­nic­i­pal­ity of­fi­cials vis­ited the mar­ket on the first day of its operation, ac­cord­ing to Muscat Mu­nic­i­pal­ity.

The new fish mar­ket will also have a fruit and veg­etable sec­tion, a cof­fee shop and a seafood restau- rant and will boost trade and tourism in the area.

Well-planned

Lo­cated close to Port Sul­tan Qa­boos, which has now been de­clared a tourism port, the well-planned new fish mar­ket is ex­pected to at­tract tourists who visit Oman from cruise ships. “We are sure that it will be­come one of the iconic land­marks of Muscat,” a res­i­dent of Mut­trah said.

The new fish mar­ket will also fea­ture fish land­ing, re­frig­er­a­tion, prepa­ra­tion, pack­ag­ing, stor­age area, of­fices for staffs and cof­fee shops. The new project was built be­side the orig­i­nal fish mar­ket, built in 1960.
