ECP stops elec­tion­eer­ing in NA-120

IS­LAM­ABAD: The Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cer NA-120 La­hore-III on Thurs­day di­rected the Chief Sec­re­tary Pun­jab to stop hold­ing of any pub­lic gath­er­ing or pro­ces­sion by any po­lit­i­cal party in the con­stituency.

Ac­cord­ing to an of­fi­cial of Elec­tion Com­mis­sion of Pak­istan (ECP), the Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cer through a let­ter writ­ten to the Chief Sec­re­tary Pun­jab asked him to en­sure the com­pli­ance of the code of con­duct is­sued by the ECP in or­der to avoid any vi­o­la­tion of con­sti­tu­tional or le­gal pro­vi­sions.

He said that it has been no­ticed by the ECP that some po­lit­i­cal par­ties are go­ing to ar­range pro­ces­sion in con­nec­tion with bye-elec­tion.

He added un­der pro­vi­sion it was the duty of the ex­ec­u­tive au­thor­i­ties to as­sist the Chief Elec­tion Com­mis­sioner and the ECP in the dis­charge of his or their func­tions.

He asked the chief sec­re­tary Pun­jab to im­me­di­ately stop any such pub­lic gath­er­ing or pro­ces­sion as un­der the code of con­duct no po­lit­i­cal party is al­lowed to ar­range any such ac­tiv­ity now.
