SSGC dis­con­nects il­le­gal gas con­nec­tion of plas­tic fac­tory

KARACHI: Sui South­ern Gas Com­pany's (SSGC) counter gas theft team con­ducted a raided a plas­tic works fac­tory lo­cated in Karachi's Li­aquatabad area and dis­con­nected its il­le­gal con­nec­tion.

The team along with law en­force­ment agen­cies, SSGC-ded­i­cated po­lice dis­cov­ered that the fac­tory own- ers were us­ing gas il­le­gally to run their fa­cil­ity by means of fake me­ters. Through this il­le­gal con­nec­tion, cul­prits were con­sum­ing 300 cu­bic feet per hour of gas. FIR has been lodged against one Qaiser Ab­bas, the fac­tory owner. SSGC has ex­pressed its de­ter­mi­na­tion to up­root the men­ace of gas theft, one of the ma­jor rea­sons be­hind ris­ing trend of Unac­count­ed­for-Gas (UFG) or line losses. Gas (Theft Con­trol and Re­cov­ery) Act passed by the Na­tional Assem­bly in 2016 and the re­cent es­tab­lish­ment of Gas util­ity courts have given the gas util­i­ties, in­clud­ing SSGC, man­date to take an un­prece­dented le­gal ac­tion against gas theft cul­prits.
