Nawaz likely to re­turn home for court ap­pear­ance to­day

ISLAMABAD: Ousted prime min­is­ter Nawaz Sharif is likely to re­turn to Pak­istan to ap­pear be­fore a trial court hear­ing graft cases filed by the Na­tional Ac­count­abil­ity Bu­reau (NAB) against him and mem­bers of his fam­ily.

Quot­ing sources, re­ported, Sharif will land in Islamabad to­day (Fri­day) morn­ing to ap­pear be­fore the ac­count­abil­ity court which is to in­dict him, his daugh­ter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Saf­dar on Oct 13 (Fri­day).

On Oct 5, the for­mer prime min­is­ter de­parted for Lon­don to visit his ail­ing wife, Begum Kul­soom Nawaz un­der­go­ing treat­ment for threat cancer.

Sharif and his sons – Hus­sain and Has­san – have been named in three NAB ref­er­ences, while Maryam and her hus­band have been named only in a ref­er­ence re­lated to the fam­ily’s Lon­don flats.

Fol­low­ing the pas­sage of Elec­tion Re­forms Act 2017 on Tues­day (Oct 3), Sharif was re- elected un­op­posed as the pres­i­dent of PML-N party since no other party leader sub­mit­ted nom­i­na­tion pa­pers for the slot of the party pres­i­dent.
