“Diabetes is on a rise” SIUT experts alarm at the global day
KARACHI: Diabetologists and members of their supporting staff placed at the SIUT (Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation) observed theWorld Diabetes Day with a great success yesterdaywhen a large number of people thronged the Institute to avail the screening facilities and obtain guidance about the management of Diabetes as an ailment. The medical experts gave a detailed presentation about the prevalence of Diabetes in Pakistan as well as at the global level. Experts disclosed that Diabetes is rising globally. Quoting the figures of International Diabetes Federation, they said currently there are 415 million people suffering with diabetes worldwide, this constitutes to 10.7% of the adult population while this figure is expected to rise to 642 million, or 11.1% by 2040 if no interventions are made. Of these, 14.4 million are undiagnosed.
