“Di­a­betes is on a rise” SIUT ex­perts alarm at the global day

KARACHI: Di­a­betol­o­gists and mem­bers of their sup­port­ing staff placed at the SIUT (Sindh In­sti­tute of Urol­ogy and Trans­plan­ta­tion) ob­served theWorld Di­a­betes Day with a great suc­cess yes­ter­day­when a large num­ber of peo­ple thronged the In­sti­tute to avail the screen­ing fa­cil­i­ties and ob­tain guid­ance about the man­age­ment of Di­a­betes as an ail­ment. The med­i­cal ex­perts gave a de­tailed pre­sen­ta­tion about the preva­lence of Di­a­betes in Pak­istan as well as at the global level. Ex­perts dis­closed that Di­a­betes is ris­ing glob­ally. Quot­ing the fig­ures of In­ter­na­tional Di­a­betes Fed­er­a­tion, they said cur­rently there are 415 mil­lion peo­ple suf­fer­ing with di­a­betes world­wide, this con­sti­tutes to 10.7% of the adult pop­u­la­tion while this fig­ure is ex­pected to rise to 642 mil­lion, or 11.1% by 2040 if no in­ter­ven­tions are made. Of th­ese, 14.4 mil­lion are un­di­ag­nosed.
