Karachi’s sus­pected knife at­tacker gets bail

KARACHI: "The Univer­sity of Karachi stu­dents clinched first po­si­tion among 126 projects dis­played from 30 dif­fer­ent uni­ver­si­ties from all over Pak­istan at the DICE (Distin­guished In­no­va­tion Col­lab­o­ra­tion En­trepreneur­ship Foun­da­tion USA)- UAF In­no­va­tion event themed Agri­cul­ture and Food Sciences (AFS) held dur­ing 7-8 Novem­ber 2017 at Univer­sity ofA­gri­cul­ture Faisal­abad.

Univer­sity of Karachi showed full par­tic­i­pa­tion in the event with 35 stu­dents repre- sented 14 projects from Depart­ment of Botany, Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture & Agribusi­ness, Food Science & Tech­nol­ogy and Karachi Univer­sity Busi­ness School un­der the um­brella of ORIC- Univer­sity of Karachi. Among them two projects from Depart­ment of Botany Univer­sity of Karachi were short listed and se­cured 1st and 6th po­si­tion. Two stu­dents from depart­ment of botany Hira An­war and Mar­ium Asif while two stu­dents from Karachi Univer­sity Busi­ness School (KUBS) Bakhtiar Ali and Fabiha Er­fan se­cured the po­si­tions.

KARACHI: The An­tiTer­ror­ism Court (ATC) is­sued or­ders on Tues­day for the re­lease of Shahzad, who was ac­cused of stab­bing women in the city.

Dur­ing a hear­ing on the case, po­lice told the court no ev­i­dence was found against Shahzad, which is why he should be granted bail.

Sub­se­quently, Shahzad was re­leased un­der Sec­tion 497 of Code of Crim­i­nal Pro­ce­dure (Cr.P.C.), 1898. Un­der the law, bail may be taken in cases of non-bail­able of­fence.

Shahzad was ar­rested in Oc­to­ber in Karachi, af­ter the city po­lice re­leased pic­tures screen grabs from the Closed-Cir­cuit Cam­era Tele­vi­sion (CCTV) footage of the sus­pect. The pho­tos showed a man on a mo­tor­bike mo­ments be­fore at­tacks one of the vic­tims.
