CM seeks feasibility for gas provision to Thar’s town
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has ordered feasibility reports for provision of gas to Kaloi town, one of the seven Tehsils Tharparker district in order to save deforestation and protect the desert’s traditional trees from extinction.
Shah issued directives to the Secretary Energy Department on the request of PPP MPA Surendar Valasai who called on him at Chief Minister’s House on Friday.
Kaloi will be first tehsil of Tharparker to have gas facility following the procedural feasibility and necessary provision of funds for the scheme to Sui Southern Gas Company. Chief Minister said that initiative will eventually be extended to other parts of Tharparker.
Thar has become a regular appearance in the national media for the brewing Thar coal revolution and the current drought spell severely affecting the fragile local economy depending on arid agriculture and livestock breeding.
Sindh government has already declared Tharparker district and parts of Umerkot, QambarShahdadkot and Dadu districts holding back or waiving off different official revenue recoveries. In Tharparker alone, 276,000 families are being provided 50 kilograms of wheat each by Sindh government.
Valasai also appealed the Chief Minister to order payment of necessary fees of NADRA for updating the status of those married couples in Thar who have not yet updated their status in the NADRA record thus technically unable to receive the free of cost wheat. The Chief Minister directed Deputy Commissioner, Tharparker to examine and send immediate proposal for providing NADRA facility free of cost to thousands of such families.
