CM seeks fea­si­bil­ity for gas pro­vi­sion to Thar’s town

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Min­is­ter Syed Mu­rad Ali Shah has or­dered fea­si­bil­ity re­ports for pro­vi­sion of gas to Kaloi town, one of the seven Tehsils Tharparker dis­trict in or­der to save de­for­esta­tion and pro­tect the desert’s tra­di­tional trees from ex­tinc­tion.

Shah is­sued di­rec­tives to the Sec­re­tary En­ergy De­part­ment on the re­quest of PPP MPA Suren­dar Vala­sai who called on him at Chief Min­is­ter’s House on Fri­day.

Kaloi will be first tehsil of Tharparker to have gas fa­cil­ity fol­low­ing the pro­ce­dural fea­si­bil­ity and nec­es­sary pro­vi­sion of funds for the scheme to Sui South­ern Gas Com­pany. Chief Min­is­ter said that ini­tia­tive will even­tu­ally be ex­tended to other parts of Tharparker.

Thar has be­come a reg­u­lar ap­pear­ance in the na­tional me­dia for the brew­ing Thar coal rev­o­lu­tion and the cur­rent drought spell se­verely af­fect­ing the frag­ile lo­cal econ­omy de­pend­ing on arid agri­cul­ture and live­stock breed­ing.

Sindh govern­ment has al­ready de­clared Tharparker dis­trict and parts of Umerkot, Qam­barShah­dad­kot and Dadu dis­tricts hold­ing back or waiv­ing off dif­fer­ent of­fi­cial rev­enue re­cov­er­ies. In Tharparker alone, 276,000 fam­i­lies are be­ing pro­vided 50 kilo­grams of wheat each by Sindh govern­ment.

Vala­sai also ap­pealed the Chief Min­is­ter to or­der pay­ment of nec­es­sary fees of NADRA for up­dat­ing the sta­tus of those mar­ried cou­ples in Thar who have not yet up­dated their sta­tus in the NADRA record thus tech­ni­cally un­able to re­ceive the free of cost wheat. The Chief Min­is­ter di­rected Deputy Com­mis­sioner, Tharparker to ex­am­ine and send im­me­di­ate pro­posal for pro­vid­ing NADRA fa­cil­ity free of cost to thou­sands of such fam­i­lies.
