Government asks Senate for withdrawal of electronic crime bill
ISLAMABAD: The government has submitted an application in the Senate ‘s Secretariat for withdrawal of amendment bill for stoppage of electronic crime .
After receiving the bill the Chairman Senate had forwarded the bill the relevant committee for approval .
On Friday the leader of House in Senate , Shibli Faraz said in his application that the approval for presenting the bill was taken from the previous cabinet, which was sent to the committee .
“As per procedure the approval of present cabinet was must as it was tabled in the house during the incum- bent government “, the PTI’s application added .
He said that the PTI’s government has nothing to do with the bill so it is taking back.
It is pertinent to mention here that the bill was presented by the former PML(N)’s government as it was approved by the federal cabinet on 29 May 2018 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Shahid KhaqanAbbasi , which was tabled in upper house of the parliament in September 2018.
The purpose of the bill was to prevent the blasphemous material on the social media.
