Govern­ment asks Sen­ate for with­drawal of elec­tronic crime bill

IS­LAM­ABAD: The govern­ment has sub­mit­ted an ap­pli­ca­tion in the Sen­ate ‘s Sec­re­tariat for with­drawal of amend­ment bill for stop­page of elec­tronic crime .

Af­ter re­ceiv­ing the bill the Chair­man Sen­ate had for­warded the bill the rel­e­vant com­mit­tee for ap­proval .

On Fri­day the leader of House in Sen­ate , Shi­bli Faraz said in his ap­pli­ca­tion that the ap­proval for pre­sent­ing the bill was taken from the pre­vi­ous cab­i­net, which was sent to the com­mit­tee .

“As per pro­ce­dure the ap­proval of present cab­i­net was must as it was tabled in the house dur­ing the in­cum- bent govern­ment “, the PTI’s ap­pli­ca­tion added .

He said that the PTI’s govern­ment has noth­ing to do with the bill so it is tak­ing back.

It is per­ti­nent to men­tion here that the bill was pre­sented by the for­mer PML(N)’s govern­ment as it was ap­proved by the fed­eral cab­i­net on 29 May 2018 dur­ing the ten­ure of for­mer Prime Min­is­ter Shahid KhaqanAb­basi , which was tabled in up­per house of the par­lia­ment in Septem­ber 2018.

The pur­pose of the bill was to pre­vent the blas­phe­mous ma­te­rial on the so­cial me­dia.
