Boosting Rice Exports

Enterprise - - Editor’s desk - Faizan Qureshi Faisalabad

Having my roots in Sindh where the best quality rice is produced, it was good to read about rice exports in your magazine. It is very commendable that you are doing regular features on export items of Pakistan like seafood, mangoes, etc. This way we can promote our products and produce in countries where the magazine is circulated.

The article mentioned that in the rice export market Pakistan faces tough competition now and Thailand and Vietnam dominate the market. The packaging of rice is very important in this regard. The substandard quality in packaging causes the long grain to break so much so that 25 percent broken rice has been reported in the packaged rice that is exported. This is not a good sign as other basmati rice exporting countries like India might use the situation to take our place
