Begum Salma Ahmed

Apropos the interview of Begum Salma Ahmed, published in March issue of Enterprise, resilient women like her are very rare in our society. Especially the patriarchal mindset that we follow discourages women to make a career and does not allow them to work in heavy industries. Begum Salma Ahmed did it - and that too on her own. I only knew her name as a woman shipbreaker but it amazed me to know that besides being an exporter, she has been an MNA and president of WCCI and PAWE. Ladies like her are a beacon of light for today’s young girls.

It is overwhelming to see that our women are not only home-makers but exemplary businesswomen and peacemakers too. I look forward to reading about the programme Begum Salma Ahmed and others are doing with ‘Aman ki Asha.’
