3rd LADIES­FUND Women’s Awards 2011

Da­wood Cap­i­tal Man­age­ment Ltd., man­agers of LADIES­FUND®, held the 3rd LADIES­FUND Women’s Awards at Mo­hatta Palace Mu­seum on 5th March, 2011 where 200 of the most dy­namic and in­spir­ing women in Pak­istan were in at­ten­dance in­clud­ing Begum Salma Ahmed, Pro­fes­sor Anita Ghu­lam Ali, Shafqat Sul­tana, Nas­reen Askari, Daulat Rahim­toola, Bina Shah, Je­han Ara, Frieha Altaf, Na­heed Ir­shadud­din, Zeenat Saeed Ahmed, Azra Ahmed, Sul­tana Siddiqui, Spenta Kan­dawalla, Nazli Ma­jeed, Shahida Ab­basi, Kaukab Shabaz, Nafisa Bhutto, Muna Siddiqui, Talat Hashimi, Ameena Saiyid, Nilofer Saeed, Pomme Go­har and Char­maine Hiy­at­ul­lah. Male at­ten­dees in­cluded Dr. Ishrat Hu­sain, Bri­tish Deputy High Com­mis­sioner Robert Gib­son, Turk­ish Con­sul Gen­eral Fethi Etem and Mush­taque Chapra.

The high­lights of the events were the an­nounce­ment of new awards into the cat­e­gory of Peo­ple’s Choice Award for Woman. LADIES­FUND® also an­nounced the launch of two new schemes of the pro­grammes namely, LADIES­FUND® Fel­low­ships and Schol­ar­ships, LADIES­FUND® En­trepreneur­ship Con­fer­ences. The for­ma­tion of BABYFUND®Avari-Espresso do­na­tion for flood re­lief was also an­nounced by Tara Uzra Da­wood, CEO, Da­wood Cap­i­tal Man­age­ment Ltd.

Life­time Achieve­ment was pre­sented to Prof. Anita Ghu­lam Ali, who spoke about the im­por­tance of ed­u­ca­tion of women and for women to work through their strug­gles.

The LADIES­FUND® Idol Award went to Naseem Hameed, fastest run­ner in South Asia. Be­sides the Rs. 50,000 prize money, she also re­ceived a for­mal pair of Samia Az­may Shahzada shoes and a for­mal Sa­nia Maskatiya out­fit.

The LADIES­FUND® Trailblazer Award was pre­sented next with the win­ner be­ing Rabia Ga­reeb for her in­no­va­tive work at CIO Pak­istan. The judges in­de­pen­dently chose her based on nu­mer­ous nom­i­na­tions in­clud­ing those from Rabia’s for­mer em­ployee M. Sal­man Shamim and au­thor Bina Shah.

The LADIES­FUND® Mo­men­tum Award was pre­sented to Re­hana Hakim one of the core team of jour­nal­ists that helped start the highly re­spect Newsline mag­a­zine and has been the Edi­tor-in-Chief since 1996.

Newly in­tro­duced LADIES­FUND® Woman of the Year went to Pak­istan Women Cricket Team (for win­ning World Cup). Ms. Bushra Aitzaz, Chair­woman of the Woman’s Wing of the Pak­istan Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion, who had flown to Karachi for the event, re­ceived the award.

The LADIES­FUND® Nadira Hy­der Zaidi Schol­ar­ship was pre­sented to Hafsa Idrees, a stu­dent of English Lit­er­a­ture at Karachi Univer­sity. The prize awards up to 4 semesters tu­ition fees for Mas­ters of English Lit­er­a­ture (M.Phil equiv­a­lent).

The LADIES­FUND® Mishal Fel­low­ship was pre­sented to Ar­shia Khur­sheed of Ba­hawalpur. This Rs. 100,000 prize will be for her next year’s work in mak­ing LADIES­FUND® be­come Pak­istan’s first brand with true so­cial me­dia pres­ence and for en­abling the brand to have true mean­ing as a re­source for women pro­fes­sion­als and en­trepreneurs. Mishal had flown down Ms. Khur­sheed for the event and Dr. Javaid R. Laghari, Chair­man Higher Ed­u­ca­tion Com­mis­sion pre­sented the cheque to Ms. Khur­sheed on stage.

Espresso had gifted a Cof­fee Kiosk for the oc­ca­sion and LAL’s de­buted their new French mac­a­roons and Cop­per Ket­tle their home­made brown­ies. All guests re­ceived a spe­cial spa bathrobe from Blu­rain Sa­lon as a gift along with a copy of the newly de­buted LADIES­FUND® Mag­a­zine
