3rd LADIESFUND Women’s Awards 2011
Dawood Capital Management Ltd., managers of LADIESFUND®, held the 3rd LADIESFUND Women’s Awards at Mohatta Palace Museum on 5th March, 2011 where 200 of the most dynamic and inspiring women in Pakistan were in attendance including Begum Salma Ahmed, Professor Anita Ghulam Ali, Shafqat Sultana, Nasreen Askari, Daulat Rahimtoola, Bina Shah, Jehan Ara, Frieha Altaf, Naheed Irshaduddin, Zeenat Saeed Ahmed, Azra Ahmed, Sultana Siddiqui, Spenta Kandawalla, Nazli Majeed, Shahida Abbasi, Kaukab Shabaz, Nafisa Bhutto, Muna Siddiqui, Talat Hashimi, Ameena Saiyid, Nilofer Saeed, Pomme Gohar and Charmaine Hiyatullah. Male attendees included Dr. Ishrat Husain, British Deputy High Commissioner Robert Gibson, Turkish Consul General Fethi Etem and Mushtaque Chapra.
The highlights of the events were the announcement of new awards into the category of People’s Choice Award for Woman. LADIESFUND® also announced the launch of two new schemes of the programmes namely, LADIESFUND® Fellowships and Scholarships, LADIESFUND® Entrepreneurship Conferences. The formation of BABYFUND®Avari-Espresso donation for flood relief was also announced by Tara Uzra Dawood, CEO, Dawood Capital Management Ltd.
Lifetime Achievement was presented to Prof. Anita Ghulam Ali, who spoke about the importance of education of women and for women to work through their struggles.
The LADIESFUND® Idol Award went to Naseem Hameed, fastest runner in South Asia. Besides the Rs. 50,000 prize money, she also received a formal pair of Samia Azmay Shahzada shoes and a formal Sania Maskatiya outfit.
The LADIESFUND® Trailblazer Award was presented next with the winner being Rabia Gareeb for her innovative work at CIO Pakistan. The judges independently chose her based on numerous nominations including those from Rabia’s former employee M. Salman Shamim and author Bina Shah.
The LADIESFUND® Momentum Award was presented to Rehana Hakim one of the core team of journalists that helped start the highly respect Newsline magazine and has been the Editor-in-Chief since 1996.
Newly introduced LADIESFUND® Woman of the Year went to Pakistan Women Cricket Team (for winning World Cup). Ms. Bushra Aitzaz, Chairwoman of the Woman’s Wing of the Pakistan Cricket Association, who had flown to Karachi for the event, received the award.
The LADIESFUND® Nadira Hyder Zaidi Scholarship was presented to Hafsa Idrees, a student of English Literature at Karachi University. The prize awards up to 4 semesters tuition fees for Masters of English Literature (M.Phil equivalent).
The LADIESFUND® Mishal Fellowship was presented to Arshia Khursheed of Bahawalpur. This Rs. 100,000 prize will be for her next year’s work in making LADIESFUND® become Pakistan’s first brand with true social media presence and for enabling the brand to have true meaning as a resource for women professionals and entrepreneurs. Mishal had flown down Ms. Khursheed for the event and Dr. Javaid R. Laghari, Chairman Higher Education Commission presented the cheque to Ms. Khursheed on stage.
Espresso had gifted a Coffee Kiosk for the occasion and LAL’s debuted their new French macaroons and Copper Kettle their homemade brownies. All guests received a special spa bathrobe from Blurain Salon as a gift along with a copy of the newly debuted LADIESFUND® Magazine
