Promoting cotton cultivation in Balochistan
Aproject called ‘Promotion of Cotton Cultivation in Balochistan Phase-II’ has been initiated by the Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Mir Israrullah Zehri. The project is focused on expanding the cotton crop area in Balochistan from the existing 95,000 acres to about 0.15 million acres.
“Balochistan offers a huge potential for cotton production and the federal government is willing to facilitate and educate the farmers to go for cotton cultivation in Balochistan,” Zehri stated.
He further added, “Provision of improved and certified seed, along with implementation and awareness among the farming community will help us in achieving the target of 0.1 to 0.15 million acres in cotton cultivation this year.”
The cotton project is mainly focused on the benefit of the poor farmer of the area with emphasis on early distribution of equipment among them. The 19 districts of Balochistan identified for the promotion of cotton crop include Nasirabad, Bolan, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Bharkan, Kharan, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Chaghi and Jaffarabad
