Pro­mot­ing cot­ton cul­ti­va­tion in Balochis­tan

Apro­ject called ‘Pro­mo­tion of Cot­ton Cul­ti­va­tion in Balochis­tan Phase-II’ has been ini­ti­ated by the Fed­eral Min­is­ter for Food and Agri­cul­ture Mir Is­rarul­lah Zehri. The pro­ject is fo­cused on ex­pand­ing the cot­ton crop area in Balochis­tan from the ex­ist­ing 95,000 acres to about 0.15 mil­lion acres.

“Balochis­tan of­fers a huge po­ten­tial for cot­ton pro­duc­tion and the fed­eral gov­ern­ment is will­ing to fa­cil­i­tate and ed­u­cate the farm­ers to go for cot­ton cul­ti­va­tion in Balochis­tan,” Zehri stated.

He fur­ther added, “Pro­vi­sion of im­proved and cer­ti­fied seed, along with im­ple­men­ta­tion and aware­ness among the farm­ing com­mu­nity will help us in achiev­ing the tar­get of 0.1 to 0.15 mil­lion acres in cot­ton cul­ti­va­tion this year.”

The cot­ton pro­ject is mainly fo­cused on the ben­e­fit of the poor farmer of the area with em­pha­sis on early dis­tri­bu­tion of equip­ment among them. The 19 dis­tricts of Balochis­tan iden­ti­fied for the pro­mo­tion of cot­ton crop in­clude Nasir­abad, Bolan, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Bharkan, Kha­ran, Las­bella, Khuz­dar, Chaghi and Jaf­farabad
