SMEDA Research Journal has been launched by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA). The launching ceremony attracted industry executives, such as Hashim Tareen, General Manager Central Support, Sultan Tiwana, General Manager Business & Sector Development Services, Syed Iqbal A. Kidwai, General Manager Outreach, Bakhtiar Khan, General Manager Policy & Planning along with a number of SME experts, economic researchers and representatives of trade bodies.

The first issue of the SMEDA Research Journal contains 4 articles addressing core SME issues including “Impact of SME Entrepreneurs’ Education on Quality of doing Business in Pakistan”, “SME’s Inaccessibility to Finance: The Bottom Line”, “State of Data Availability on SMEs and its Implications for Policy Formulation” and “SME Development in Pakistan and Its contribution to Economics.” These are being greatly appreciated by eminent researchers and economic experts.

Shahid Rashid, Federal Secretary Textile, pointed out that prominent data reporting agencies were not able to provide accurate statistics on Pakistan’s SME sector for lack of a specific criterion while gathering their data. In this situation, SMEDA’s dedicated journal of economic research, specifically tailored to the dynamics of Pakistan’s SME sector, would prove to be a good source to bridge the missing link.

Yousaf Naseem Khokhar, CEO SMEDA, appreciated the role of SMEDA as a policymaker and services provider to fill the gaps, despite the availability limited resources
