ECU spon­sors Aibak Polo Cup

ECU Line Pak­istan (Pvt.) Ltd. spon­sored the Aibak Polo Cup 2012 which was played in Lahore. Mian Shah­baz Sharif, the Chief Min­is­ter of Pun­jab was the chief guest at the final match. Raul Laplacette and San­ti­ago Men­divil clinched the ECU Line Aibak Polo Cup 2012 for Colony Sugar in the final match played with Shah­pur.

The Aibak Polo 2012 was hosted by the Lahore Polo Club. which is the old­est such club in Pak­istan with a his­tory span­ning over 150 years. The club hosts the Aibak Cup ev­ery year - one of the premier polo tour­na­ments of the coun­try. This year sev­eral Ar­gen­tinean pro­fes­sional polo play­ers also played the sea­son in Pak­istan.

The princely game of polo traces its ori­gins to the area now in North­ern Pak­istan. Over the cen­turies, the game be­came very pop­u­lar with royalty across the sub­con­ti­nent and was taken to Eng­land. It later spread to North Amer­ica, South Amer­ica, Australia and sev­eral other coun­tries where it is a sport of leisure. To­day Ar­gentina pro­duces some of the most com­pet­i­tive polo play­ers in the world.

The Aibak Cup is ded­i­cated to the mem­ory of Qut­bud­din Aibak, a trusted gen­eral of the Afghan Em­peror Muhammed Ghauri and an avid polo player.
