ECU sponsors Aibak Polo Cup
ECU Line Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. sponsored the Aibak Polo Cup 2012 which was played in Lahore. Mian Shahbaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab was the chief guest at the final match. Raul Laplacette and Santiago Mendivil clinched the ECU Line Aibak Polo Cup 2012 for Colony Sugar in the final match played with Shahpur.
The Aibak Polo 2012 was hosted by the Lahore Polo Club. which is the oldest such club in Pakistan with a history spanning over 150 years. The club hosts the Aibak Cup every year - one of the premier polo tournaments of the country. This year several Argentinean professional polo players also played the season in Pakistan.
The princely game of polo traces its origins to the area now in Northern Pakistan. Over the centuries, the game became very popular with royalty across the subcontinent and was taken to England. It later spread to North America, South America, Australia and several other countries where it is a sport of leisure. Today Argentina produces some of the most competitive polo players in the world.
The Aibak Cup is dedicated to the memory of Qutbuddin Aibak, a trusted general of the Afghan Emperor Muhammed Ghauri and an avid polo player.
