TDAP to increase trade activities in Czech Republic

Tariq Puri, Chief Executive, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan ( TDAP) has assured full support for enhancing trade promotion activities in the Czech Republic, while discussing areas of collaboration with Jiří Nestával, President of the Czech Middle- Asian Chamber of Commerce (CSOK) and other members of a Czech delegation

Puri emphasized that as a member of European Union, the support of Czech Republic is important for implementing the concession package for Pakistani products in the European market to increase the quantum of bilateral trade between the two countries which currently hovers round US $ 36 million.

He stated that projects being offered by Pakistan are highly attractive in terms of profitability, especially in the energy sector. Furthermore, Pakistani agriculture is robust and nature has endowed Pakistan, which is the world’s second largest buffalo meat producer, second largest buffalo milk producer, third largest cottonseed producer, third largest chilli producer, fourth largest goat meat producer, fifth largest mango producer and seventh largest wheat producer. He stressed on the Czech delegation to look into projects for value addition in the agriculture supply chain, especially in rice.

TDAP is fully supportive of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce for strengthening trade relations. TDAP intends to support a proposal for a “Display and Retail Outlet” where it could assist in identification and supply of products meeting the demand and quality standards of the Czech Republic.

Tariq Puri said that TDAP is currently in the process of establishing Skill Development Centres where entrepreneurship of Pakistani women, especially those living in rural areas, could be utilized for developing products and these would be marketed in the Czech Republic to create a bond and a long- term relationship between the people of both the nations, especially the younger generations.

He further assured TDAP’s full support for holding of a mango extravaganza in Prague in the coming mango season. Puri supported the proposal of holding an Agriculture Exhibition in September 2012 in Prague where TDAP, KCCI and CSOK could collaborate. A Fashion Show is also being planned. According to Puri, Information Technology is another area where Czech delegation could explore joint ventures in Pakistan.

Mian Abrar, President KCCI and other officials of KCCI and TDAP were present in the meeting.
