This is with reference to the MFN story published in Enterprise in August. The bitterness present between the two countries, India and Pakistan, has for years hampered their trade relations. It was an extremely rational and practical decision on the part of Pakistan to grant India the status of Most Favoured Nation. The two way MFN situation would definitely lead to smoother bilateral trade. It would allow Pakistani businessmen to establish themselves in the Indian market. The increased volume of trade through road and rail links would also serve as an additional push for the authorities to improve the inadequate infrastructure in Pakistan.
