IDEAS 2012 opens new doors
The seventh edition of the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) held in Karachi, drew delegates from more than 50 countries. They comprised senior officials, trade visitors, defence ministers, secretaries and service chiefs. Some 209 firms also exhibited their products at the event, of which 135 were foreign firms and 74 Pakistani companies.
The exhibitors promoted their military hardware at the exhibition and made new business contacts. The Pakistani defence industry had a special presence at the show and had the opportunity to capitalise on the growing security concerns at the global level. Pakistani companies that manufacture military equipment for the armed forces were confident that the exhibition will open new business avenues for them.
Commodore Siddiq Akbar, Director Media of the Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO), Ministry of Defence Production, said, “Despite the fact that the Exhibition is being held after a gap of four years, we have received an overwhelming response from exhibitors from around the globe.”
A separate space was allocated for defence companies from China, North America, South America and Europe which displayed various military weapons including battle tanks, fighter aircraft and UAVs. Along with the IDEAS exhibition, s the International Defence Seminar was also held with Side Line Conferences that discussed challenges faced by the Armed Forces of Pakistan in particular, and international forces in general. In addition, several high-level meetings were held between foreign delegates, key government officials and trade visitors and avenues for forging alliance in defence production were discussed.
