An­other suc­cess­ful year for Malaysian In­ter­na­tional Food & Bev­er­age Trade Fair

Th he 14th M Malaysian l i It In­ter­na­tional ti l Food & Bev­er­age Trade Fair (MIFB 2013) wel­comed vis­i­tors from June 6 to 8, 2013 at the Pu­tra World Trade Cen­tre. Malaysia’s Dato’ Sri Is­mail Sabri bin Yaakob, Min­is­ter of Agri­cul­ture & Agro-Based In­dus­try, launched the event.

MIFB 2013 is a plat­form for cor­po­rate and food en­thu­si­asts, look­ing to ex­plore new pos­si­bil­i­ties in the food and bev­er­age (F&B) sec­tor. Unique culi­nary tra­di­tions and in­no­va­tions were show­cased by in­ter­na­tional ex­hibitors, of­fer­ing in­dus­try play­ers the op­por­tu­nity to ex­plore new mar­kets.

“MIFB 2013 has been the most fo­cused food trade event in the coun­try and also plays host to the largest gath­er­ing of F&B stake­hold­ers from the re­gion and be­yond. This event pro­vides an op­por­tu­nity for the in­dus­try to show­case their agri­cul­tural and food prod­ucts for big­ger mar­ket pen­e­tra­tion, and at the same time, for ex­ist­ing and up­com­ing en­trepreneurs to learn and in­ter­act with suc­cess­ful play­ers,” said Dato Is­mail.

Over 350 trade ex­hibitors from more than 20 coun­tries dis­played their prod­ucts at the 3-day event. China fielded the largest num­ber of ex­hibitors. The Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture of the Repub­lic of China Pav­il­ion, Hu­nan Pav­il­ion, Qing Dao Pav­il­ion, Tian Jing Pav­il­ion and Xi­a­men Pav­il­ion rep­re­sented China. Over 100 Ha­lal food ex­hibitors also par­tic­i­pated.

“MIFB brought Malaysia’s F&B in­dus­try to the world and the world’s F&B in­dus­try to Malaysia. This fair net­works, cre­ates brand aware­ness and po­si­tions prod­ucts on an in­ter­na­tional scale. It is the plat­form to grow busi­nesses and stay ahead of com­pe­ti­tion,” said Chua Wee Phong, Chair­man of Sphere Ex­hibits Sin­ga­pore.

MIFB 2013 fea­tured Agri­cul­tural Prod­ucts, Pro­cessed Food and B Bev­er­age Prod­ucts, Pd tN New and dI In­no­va­tive ti In­ter­na­tional F&B prod­ucts, Tra­di­tional Malaysian Food, plus Health and Or­ganic Food va­ri­eties. High­lights of the ex­hi­bi­tion in­cluded the Agro-Bio Busi­ness Con­fer­ence, Walk-the-World Coun­try Pavil­ions, The­matic Dis­plays, Food In­sights, se­ries of sem­i­nars, and One-on-One Busi­ness Match­ing ses­sions. For the first time, MIFB 2013 pre­sented a Wine Zone, fea­tur­ing prod­ucts from all over the world. Themed “Taste the Wine, Travel the World,” wine-lovers and in­vestors were able to have in-depth dis­cus­sions with lo­cal and over­seas wine dis­trib­u­tors and ex­plored new busi­ness op­por­tu­ni­ties.

The Pak­istani pav­il­ion show­cas­ing the rich food and agri prod­ucts of Pak­istan, in­clud­ing mango and other sea­sonal fruits, drew a large num­ber of vis­i­tors and po­ten­tial buy­ers. Dato’ Sri Is­mail Sabri bin Yaakob, also vis­ited the pav­il­ion where he was re­ceived by the Pak­istan High Com­mis­sioner to Malaysia, Shahid Mas­roor Gul Kiani who briefed the min­is­ter about the var­i­ous Pak­istani food and agri prod­ucts on dis­play.

The min­is­ter showed keen in­ter­est in the Pak­istani food prod­ucts and ap­pre­ci­ated their qual­ity and fine taste which had en­deared them to the gen­eral pop­u­lace in Malaysia. Later, Pak­istan High Com­mis­sioner Shahid M.G. Kiani also met the Pak­istani del­e­ga­tion of ex­porters and ex­hibitors rep­re­sent­ing Dawn Bread, Life­style So­lu­tions, Zaiqa Food In­dus­tries, Shahzad Asia Int’L SMC (Pvt) Ltd, Restoran Me­nara, Euro Ibrahim En­ter­prise and Candy­land Mar­ket­ing Sdn Bhd, and lauded their ini­tia­tive to at­tend the fair to reach out to the vast mar­ket in Malaysia.

The Pak­istan High Com­mis­sioner said the event of­fered par­tic­i­pat­ing Pak­istani ex­porters a rare op­por­tu­nity to es­tab­lish per­sonal con­tacts with a large num­ber of po­ten­tial pur­chasers gath­ered th d at t one place l and d use the th ex­pe­ri­ence to in­crease their trad­ing port­fo­lio.

The ‘9th Malaysia In­ter­na­tional Agro-Bio Busi­ness Con­fer­ence’ also com­ple­mented MIFB 2013. Themed “To­wards a Sus­tain­able Agri­cul­ture Econ­omy”, the con­fer­ence acted as a plat­form for thought lead­ers and cor­po­rates to share tech­ni­cal knowl­edge and busi­ness ex­per­tise with im­por­tant stake­hold­ers in the Agri­cul­ture and F&B in­dus­tries, such as the govern­ment, pub­lic sec­tor and mul­ti­lat­eral or­ga­ni­za­tions.

More than 23,000 trade vis­i­tors gen­er­ated a to­tal sales of RM120 mil­lion this year com­pared to last year, when over 21,000 trade vis­i­tors par­tic­i­pated, gen­er­at­ing a to­tal sales of RM102.3 mil­lion.

Trade vis­i­tors at­tended the MIFB 2013 from more than 25 coun­tries and re­gions in­clud­ing Aus­tralia, Cam­bo­dia, Brunei, China, France, Ja­pan, South Korea, United King­dom and the United States of Amer­ica. MIFB 2013 is held in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture & Agro-Based In­dus­try and en­dorsed by the Malaysia Ex­ter­nal Trade De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion (MA­TRADE), the Min­istry of Plan­ta­tion In­dus­tries and Com­modi­ties, and the Min­istry of In­ter­na­tional Trade and In­dus­try (MITI). It is also sup­ported by the Malaysian Agri­cul­tural Re­search and De­vel­op­ment In­sti­tute (MARDI) and Marditech Cor­po­ra­tion Sdn Bhd. The event was jointly or­ga­nized by Sphere Ex­hibits Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Mu­tiara Sigma (M) Sdn Bhd.
