Another successful year for Malaysian International Food & Beverage Trade Fair
Th he 14th M Malaysian l i It International ti l Food & Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB 2013) welcomed visitors from June 6 to 8, 2013 at the Putra World Trade Centre. Malaysia’s Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, Minister of Agriculture & Agro-Based Industry, launched the event.
MIFB 2013 is a platform for corporate and food enthusiasts, looking to explore new possibilities in the food and beverage (F&B) sector. Unique culinary traditions and innovations were showcased by international exhibitors, offering industry players the opportunity to explore new markets.
“MIFB 2013 has been the most focused food trade event in the country and also plays host to the largest gathering of F&B stakeholders from the region and beyond. This event provides an opportunity for the industry to showcase their agricultural and food products for bigger market penetration, and at the same time, for existing and upcoming entrepreneurs to learn and interact with successful players,” said Dato Ismail.
Over 350 trade exhibitors from more than 20 countries displayed their products at the 3-day event. China fielded the largest number of exhibitors. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of China Pavilion, Hunan Pavilion, Qing Dao Pavilion, Tian Jing Pavilion and Xiamen Pavilion represented China. Over 100 Halal food exhibitors also participated.
“MIFB brought Malaysia’s F&B industry to the world and the world’s F&B industry to Malaysia. This fair networks, creates brand awareness and positions products on an international scale. It is the platform to grow businesses and stay ahead of competition,” said Chua Wee Phong, Chairman of Sphere Exhibits Singapore.
MIFB 2013 featured Agricultural Products, Processed Food and B Beverage Products, Pd tN New and dI Innovative ti International F&B products, Traditional Malaysian Food, plus Health and Organic Food varieties. Highlights of the exhibition included the Agro-Bio Business Conference, Walk-the-World Country Pavilions, Thematic Displays, Food Insights, series of seminars, and One-on-One Business Matching sessions. For the first time, MIFB 2013 presented a Wine Zone, featuring products from all over the world. Themed “Taste the Wine, Travel the World,” wine-lovers and investors were able to have in-depth discussions with local and overseas wine distributors and explored new business opportunities.
The Pakistani pavilion showcasing the rich food and agri products of Pakistan, including mango and other seasonal fruits, drew a large number of visitors and potential buyers. Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, also visited the pavilion where he was received by the Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia, Shahid Masroor Gul Kiani who briefed the minister about the various Pakistani food and agri products on display.
The minister showed keen interest in the Pakistani food products and appreciated their quality and fine taste which had endeared them to the general populace in Malaysia. Later, Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid M.G. Kiani also met the Pakistani delegation of exporters and exhibitors representing Dawn Bread, Lifestyle Solutions, Zaiqa Food Industries, Shahzad Asia Int’L SMC (Pvt) Ltd, Restoran Menara, Euro Ibrahim Enterprise and Candyland Marketing Sdn Bhd, and lauded their initiative to attend the fair to reach out to the vast market in Malaysia.
The Pakistan High Commissioner said the event offered participating Pakistani exporters a rare opportunity to establish personal contacts with a large number of potential purchasers gathered th d at t one place l and d use the th experience to increase their trading portfolio.
The ‘9th Malaysia International Agro-Bio Business Conference’ also complemented MIFB 2013. Themed “Towards a Sustainable Agriculture Economy”, the conference acted as a platform for thought leaders and corporates to share technical knowledge and business expertise with important stakeholders in the Agriculture and F&B industries, such as the government, public sector and multilateral organizations.
More than 23,000 trade visitors generated a total sales of RM120 million this year compared to last year, when over 21,000 trade visitors participated, generating a total sales of RM102.3 million.
Trade visitors attended the MIFB 2013 from more than 25 countries and regions including Australia, Cambodia, Brunei, China, France, Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom and the United States of America. MIFB 2013 is held in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture & Agro-Based Industry and endorsed by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). It is also supported by the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and Marditech Corporation Sdn Bhd. The event was jointly organized by Sphere Exhibits Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Mutiara Sigma (M) Sdn Bhd.
