479 MW wind en­ergy projects to start gen­er­a­tion shortly

As many as five wind power projects with the cu­mu­la­tive ca­pac­ity of 255.4 MW are cur­rently op­er­a­tional while nine projects of 479 MW would start gen­er­a­tion shortly.

Of­fi­cial sources told APP here that Al­ter­na­tive En­ergy De­vel­op­ment Board (AEDB) is purs­ing the de­vel­op­ment of al­ter­na­tive and re­new­able en­ergy based power projects through the pri­vate sec­tor un­der Re­new­able En­ergy Pol­icy 2006.

They said that the AEDB had is­sued Let­ter of In­tent (LOIs) to 30 power projects for 1760 MW ca­pac­ity.

Giv­ing the breakup, they said that FFC En­ergy Lim­ited was gen­er­at­ing 49.5 MW, Zorlu En­erji Pak­istan (Pvt) Ltd 56.4 MW, Three Gorges First Wind Farm Pak­istan (Pvt) 49.5 MW and Foundation Wind En­ergy-I and II 50 MW each.

The sources said that Pak­istan has po­ten­tial to gen­er­ate 132,000 MW power from wind. Alone over 60,000 MW wind elec­tric­ity could be gen­er­ated in Gharo-Keti Ban­dar cor­ri­dor, they said.

The sources said that 13 biomass/bagasse co-gen­er­a­tion projects of 416.1 MW cu­mu­la­tive ca­pac­ity are at dif­fer­ent stages of de­vel­op­ment. Tow projects of 52.7 MW cu­mu­la­tive ca­pac­ity in­clud­ing JDW Sugar Mills (Ltd) UnitII) and JDW Sugar Mulls Ltd (Unit III) dis­trict Ghotki are op­er­a­tional, they said.
