479 MW wind energy projects to start generation shortly
As many as five wind power projects with the cumulative capacity of 255.4 MW are currently operational while nine projects of 479 MW would start generation shortly.
Official sources told APP here that Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) is pursing the development of alternative and renewable energy based power projects through the private sector under Renewable Energy Policy 2006.
They said that the AEDB had issued Letter of Intent (LOIs) to 30 power projects for 1760 MW capacity.
Giving the breakup, they said that FFC Energy Limited was generating 49.5 MW, Zorlu Enerji Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd 56.4 MW, Three Gorges First Wind Farm Pakistan (Pvt) 49.5 MW and Foundation Wind Energy-I and II 50 MW each.
The sources said that Pakistan has potential to generate 132,000 MW power from wind. Alone over 60,000 MW wind electricity could be generated in Gharo-Keti Bandar corridor, they said.
The sources said that 13 biomass/bagasse co-generation projects of 416.1 MW cumulative capacity are at different stages of development. Tow projects of 52.7 MW cumulative capacity including JDW Sugar Mills (Ltd) UnitII) and JDW Sugar Mulls Ltd (Unit III) district Ghotki are operational, they said.
