Police officer martyred, two terrorists killed
PESHAWAR— Bloody clashes between the Police force and the alleged suicide bombers in Mardan on Saturday resulted in martyrdom of an additional Station House Officer and killing of two terrorists. Besides, three civilians sustained injuries as one of the bombers blew himself up before he could be overpowered.
Reports reaching here said a police party on a routine patrolling intercepted two persons riding a motorbike in Katlang bazaar, some 35 kilometers away from
Mardan but they resorted to firing on the Police party and hurled grenade on the law enforcers that led to the killing of Additional SHO Khushdil Khan. Besides three civilians were also wounded seriously. As the terrorists fled from the scene the police part chased the trouble makers and gunned down one of them while the other detonated the explosive jacket he was wearing to escape arrest. “Two assailants riding a motorcycle targeted a group of policemen outside of the po- lice station in Katlang bazaar. As a result of the grenade attack, Additional SHO Khush Dil died on the spot, while three others were wounded. The attackers tried to flee the scene but were chased by a policeman and in the retaliatory fire, the police gunned down one attacker, while the other one wearing a concealed explosives vest, blew himself to avoid arrest”. The Police officials said.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mardan, Jaffar Khan while confirming the suicide attack said the handler of the suicide bomber was also killed in a police encounter after the blast adding three people including the SHO, a shopkeeper and a passerby was injured in the attack. Police cordoned off the area and rescue teams rushed to the site of the explosion and shifted the dead bodies and the injured to hospital. The unknown terrorists, a few days back, had gunned down two police men at a picket in Mardan following which the security was beefed up in the city.
