Khat­tak di­rects fast com­ple­tion of BRTP

PESAHWAR — Chief Min­is­ter Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khat­tak has directed for gear­ing up of prepara­tory ac­tiv­i­ties of Bus Rapid Trans­port Project (BRTP) to en­sure ini­ti­a­tion of con­struc­tion work of the project in Jan­uary next year to com­plete it by De­cem­ber 2017 to pro­vide bet­ter trans­port fa­cil­i­ties to Pe­shawar­its.

He is­sued these di­rec­tives while pre­sid­ing over a re­view meet­ing of Bus Rapid Trans­port Project at Chief Min­is­ter Sec­re­tariat, Peshawar Tues­day. MPA Arbab Je­han­dad Khan, Dis­trict Nazim Peshawar, Mo­ham­mad Asim, Sec­re­tary Trans­port, DGPDA, DC Peshawar and rep­re­senta-tives of Fi­nance, P&D and other de­part­ments at­tended the meet­ing.

The Sec­re­tary Trans­port, Mo­ham­mad Zubair Qureshi briefed the meet­ing about the ac­tiv­i­ties be­ing car­ried out for im­ple­men­ta­tion of the project. The meet­ing was in­formed that the project Man­age­ment Unit (PMU) of the project had al­ready been ap­proved while ef­forts were un­der­way for hir­ing staff for the unit.

Sim­i­larly, the meet­ing was told that Mass Tran­sit Act (Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa Ur­ban Mo­bil­ity Act) had been fi­nal­ized and soon would be pre­sented to the provin­cial cabinet for ap­proval. More­over, fea­si­bil­ity of the Bus Rapid Trans­port would be com­pleted in Septem­ber this year while re­cruit­ment of con­sul­tant for the de­tail de­sign­ing had al­ready been ad­ver­tised.

Like­wise, sum­mary for es­tab­lish­ment of Mass Tran­sit Bus Rapid Trans­port Com­pany was pre­sented to the CM for ap­proval. The meet­ing was in­formed that pro­cure­ment of one thou­sand latest air con­di­tioned buses to be run in Peshawar was also ad­ver­tised. The Chief Min­is­ter directed for speed­ing up of prepara­tory process of the BRT project and directed for re­moval of ob­sta­cles in this re­gard.
