PM urged to get sup­port of other prov­inces

IS­LAM­ABAD—Balochis­tan Na­tional Party-Men­gal has urged Prime Min­is­ter Nawaz Sharif to take the po­lit­i­cal lead­er­ship of the prov­inces into con­fi­dence over Panama leaks is­sue.

“The prime min­is­ter is still in a po­si­tion to muster sup­port from the smaller prov­inces, par­tic­u­larly from Balochis­tan, in the best in­ter­est of democ­racy,” BNP-M Vice President Sa­jid Ta­reen Ad­vo­cate said while speak­ing to me­dia.

“The smaller prov­inces have the suf­fered most dur­ing mil­i­tary regimes in the coun­try,” he added. Ta­reen went on to say that his party is deeply con­cerned over the pre­vail­ing po­lit­i­cal cri­sis as it threat­ens to de­rail the en­tire demo­cratic process in the coun­try.

Panama Pa­pers, a trove of doc­u­ments leaked from the archives of a Panama-based law firm, has named Prime Min­is­ter Nawaz Sharif’s three chil­dren among over 200 Pak­ista­nis for own­ing off­shore com­pa­nies. BNP-M, one of the op­po­si­tion par­ties in the Balochis­tan Assembly, has a soft at­ti­tude to­wards the Nawaz-led govern­ment.
