Top play­ers to take part in Shuhada-e-Army Na­tional Rank­ing Bad­minton

PE­SHAWAR—All Pak­istan Shu­dada-e-Army Na­tional Rank­ing Bad­minton Tour­na­ment car­ry­ing a prize money of Rs 0.6 mil­lion will be com­menc­ing from April 28 to May 3 here at Pe­shawar Ser­vices Club.

This was stated Pres­i­dent Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa Bad­minton As­so­ci­a­tion Za­far Ali Khan while ad­dress­ing a press con­fer­ence here at Pe­shawar Ser­vice Club on Wed­nes­day.

To pay trib­ute to the mar­tyrs of Pak­istan Army, Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa Bad­minton As­so­ci­a­tion in a joint ven­ture with Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Sports Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa and Pe­shawar Ser­vices Club is go­ing hold the pres­ti­gious event wherein top play­ers from across the coun­try are tak­ing part.

Za­far Ali Khan said that Corps Com­man­der Pe­shawar Lt. Gen­eral Hi­dayat-ur-Rehman will grace the oc­ca­sion as chief guest and will for­mally in­au­gu­rate the tour­na­ment in a newly con­structed in­door hall at Pe­shawar Ser­vices Club.

He said af­ter a lapse of 17 long years, Pe­shawar is host­ing such a pres­ti­gious event which carries a record and hand­some cash prize of Rs 0.6 mil­lion. Around 120 lead­ing bad­minton play­ers, both male and fe­male, will vie for the top honor in Men’s sin­gles, Men’s dou­bles, Ladies sin­gles, Ladies Dou­bles and Mix dou­bles.

Za­far Ali Khan said that Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa is di­rectly hit by in­sur­gency and mil­i­tancy but the jawan of Pak­istan Army and se­cu­rity forces fought with brav­ery by rendering great sac­ri­fices for the restora­tion of peace in the re­gion.

He said now we are head­ing to­wards a com­plete nor­malcy and that is why we have de­cided to evolve our youth, who were trau­ma­tize and were con­fined to their homes to come up and par­tic­i­pate in the pres­ti­gious event. He said ar­range­ment in this con­nec­tion has al­ready been done and hope­fully the event will go in a be­fit­ting man­ner.

Flanked by Sec­re­tary Or­ga­niz­ing Com­mit­tee Mian Sadaqat Shah, Sec­re­tary KP Bad­minton As­so­ci­a­tion Haji Am­jad, Za­far Ali Khan said, play­ers from all af­fil­i­ated units of Pak­istan Bad­minton Fed­er­a­tion com­pris­ing Pak­istan Army, Pak­istan Wapda, Pak­istan Rail­ways, Pak­istan Po­lice, Sui South­ern Gas Pipe Line, PIA, NBP, Pak­istan Mil­i­tary Ac­count, Azad Jammu and Kash­mir, Gil­gitBaltistan, FATA, Islamabad and four prov­inces are tak­ing part.

He said the open­ing cer­e­mony of the tour­na­ment will be held at 7.00 pm on April 28, fol­lowed by morn­ing and evening ses­sion matches. He dis­closed that Pak­istan Bad­minton Fed­er­a­tion Mian Iftikhar nom­i­nated Iftikhar Ah­mad as Tour­na­ment Ref­eree, Am­jad Khan as deputy ref­eree and Mian Sadaqat Shah as or­ga­niz­ing sec­re­tary.—APP
