Top players to take part in Shuhada-e-Army National Ranking Badminton
PESHAWAR—All Pakistan Shudada-e-Army National Ranking Badminton Tournament carrying a prize money of Rs 0.6 million will be commencing from April 28 to May 3 here at Peshawar Services Club.
This was stated President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association Zafar Ali Khan while addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Service Club on Wednesday.
To pay tribute to the martyrs of Pakistan Army, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association in a joint venture with Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Peshawar Services Club is going hold the prestigious event wherein top players from across the country are taking part.
Zafar Ali Khan said that Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. General Hidayat-ur-Rehman will grace the occasion as chief guest and will formally inaugurate the tournament in a newly constructed indoor hall at Peshawar Services Club.
He said after a lapse of 17 long years, Peshawar is hosting such a prestigious event which carries a record and handsome cash prize of Rs 0.6 million. Around 120 leading badminton players, both male and female, will vie for the top honor in Men’s singles, Men’s doubles, Ladies singles, Ladies Doubles and Mix doubles.
Zafar Ali Khan said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is directly hit by insurgency and militancy but the jawan of Pakistan Army and security forces fought with bravery by rendering great sacrifices for the restoration of peace in the region.
He said now we are heading towards a complete normalcy and that is why we have decided to evolve our youth, who were traumatize and were confined to their homes to come up and participate in the prestigious event. He said arrangement in this connection has already been done and hopefully the event will go in a befitting manner.
Flanked by Secretary Organizing Committee Mian Sadaqat Shah, Secretary KP Badminton Association Haji Amjad, Zafar Ali Khan said, players from all affiliated units of Pakistan Badminton Federation comprising Pakistan Army, Pakistan Wapda, Pakistan Railways, Pakistan Police, Sui Southern Gas Pipe Line, PIA, NBP, Pakistan Military Account, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, GilgitBaltistan, FATA, Islamabad and four provinces are taking part.
He said the opening ceremony of the tournament will be held at 7.00 pm on April 28, followed by morning and evening session matches. He disclosed that Pakistan Badminton Federation Mian Iftikhar nominated Iftikhar Ahmad as Tournament Referee, Amjad Khan as deputy referee and Mian Sadaqat Shah as organizing secretary.—APP
