Gover­nor calls for use of Govt funds ju­di­ciously

DG Au­dit present re­port to Ishratul Ebad

KARACHI—Di­rec­tor Gen­eral (DG) Au­dit Sindh, Si­raj Mustafa Jokhio, called on Gover­nor Sindh, Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan, here on Wed­nes­day at Gover­nor House. He pre­sented Au­dit Re­port of fis­cal year 2014-15 to the Gover­nor.

He in­formed the Gover­nor Sindh about the work­ing of his Depart­ment in-de­tail and also briefed him about the au­dit re­port of var­i­ous pro­vin­cial gov- ern­ment de­part­ments and ‘wrong do­ings men­tioned in the re­port in seven cat­e­gories.’

He in­formed that as many as 325 au­dit paras were made in the au­dit of 35 pro­vin­cial Gov­ern­ment de­part­ments. Gover­nor Sindh said, ‘with the au­dit short­com­ings and wrong­do­ings of pro­vin­cial de­part­ments are ex­posed.’

While, laud­ing the per­for­mance of au­dit depart­ment, he said that with their en­deav­ors good gover­nance and trans­parency is be­ing en­sured. He said that devel­op­ment funds be­long to the masses and to en­sure their trans­parency and just use is the re­spon­si­bil­ity of all of­fi­cers con­cerned.

He said that with­out the process of ac­count­abil­ity no so­ci­ety can move for­ward. It is a con­tin­u­ous process and should be kept run­ning, he said and added that the wrong­do­ings, when and where wit­nessed should be pointed out and sug­ges­tions should be made to erad­i­cate the same.

Dr. Ebad fur­ther said that the per­cent­age of us­age of Gov­ern­ment funds tends to in­crease with near­ing of fis­cal year end­ing which should be mon­i­tored closely to en­sure fair play. The DG Au­dit fur­ther in­formed that Au­di­tor Gen­eral Pak­istan has del­e­gated pow­ers to his depart­ment to phys­i­cally mon­i­tor the devel­op­ment projects of all the pro­vin­cial de­part­ments.

Prin­ci­pal Sec­re­tary to Gover­nor Muham­mad Hus­sain Syed and Di­rec­tor Au­dit Sindh Mu­jahid Ali Shaikh were also present on the oc­ca­sion.
