Pakistan Observer - - TWIN CITIES - STAFF REPORTER

ISLAMABAD —Pakistan would always support Azerbaijan ‘in all conflicts at international level,’ Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain here on Thursday said.

In a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Minister for Defence Industry Yavar Jamalov, Rana Tanveer said that Azerbaijan was a friend of Pakistan.

According to a press release, Minister for Defence Production mentioned that Azerbaijan needed to build up its defence capability because conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia was harsh reality.

He expressed readiness to transfer technology by undertaking joint ventures with the friendly country. “Even a broad based agreement on joint defence production can be drafted between two countries,” Rana Tanveer said. Yavar Jamalov asked for designing special mechanism in order to avoid unnecessary delaying formalities of procurement between both the countries.

For this purpose, he proposed that focal persons from concerned ministries of both the countries may be formed in order to speed up the process of procurement. He showed interest in warhead technology.

He invited Rana Tanveer to ADEX 2016 (Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition).

Vice versa invitation was also given to Azri Minister to attend the Pakistan’s defence production exhibition IDEAS 2016. The meeting extensively deliberated to enhance the defence cooperation.

Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is the single country in the Caucasus region which is able to obtain the newest military technologies in defiance with international standards. Azerbaijan is ranked as 15th in the world list of highest arms import countries.—APP
