Essential drug availability, pricing policy to be revisited
ISLAMABAD—Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations Coordination and Pharmaceutical Manufacturers have agreed in principle to revisit the Essential Drug Availability and Pricing Policy. The existing drug policy was discussed threadbare and there emerged consensus on amendments required in the policy for meeting the objectives of availability of efficacious, affordable and quality essential drugs.
A meeting of the subcommittees of the Convenors constituted by the Wafaqi Mohtasib was held under the Chairmanship of Brig. (Retd) Dr. Muzammil Hassan Najmi, Prof. Fauji Foundation University Medical College, Islamabad and Dr. Inam ul Haq, Former Drugs Controller and Chairman Quality Control Authority and Dean and Director, Riphah In- stitute of Pharmaceutical Sci- ences, to study Measures for Availability of Essential Drugs at the Public Sector Hospitals & Clinics, Drugs Pricing and Quality Control Mechanism for Essential Drugs.
The Honourable Wafaqi Mohtasib Mr. M. Salman Faruqui was apprised by the Convenors of the subcommittee on the progress made to ensure the availability of Essential Drugs at affordable prices. The Wafaqi Mohtasib appreciated the efforts of the Government and the manufacturers which are being made to eminent doctors, pharmacists, drug manufacturers and other stake holders. He emphasized the need for speedy finalization of the report as it affects the health of the people.
