Prime im­por­tance be given to tele­com ser­vices


ISLAMABAD—Min­is­ter of State for In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy and Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions, Anusha Rah­man Thurs­day said prime im­por­tance be given to af­ford­abil­ity and ac­ces­si­bil­ity when it comes to pro­vi­sion of tele­com ser­vices in un­served and un­der-served ar­eas. Di­rect­ing Uni­ver­sal Ser­vice Fund (USF) at its 44th Board of Direc­tors meet­ing here, she said there was a need to have a study done and present an al­ter­na­tive strate­gies for broad­band cov­er­age.

The man­age­ment was di­rected to pro­pose op­tions for im­prove­ment of the process to en­able op­ti­mal in­fras­truc­ture shar­ing on USF de­ployed project both on cov­er­age and fiber pro­gramme, she said while chair­ing USF Board’s meet­ing. The meet­ing took an over­view of two years plan along with main ef­forts and devel­op­ment of tele­com ser­vices in un-served and un­der-served ar­eas through­out length and breadth of the coun­try by USF. The Board of Direc­tors took into con­sid­er­a­tion the project for pro­vi­sion of In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Tech­nolo­gies (ICTs) for Ba­sic Ed­u­ca­tion Com­mu­nity Schools.
