Third day of na­tional cycling be­longed to Rail­ways

LAHORE—The third day of the na­tional cycling cham­pi­onship be­longed to Pak­istan Rail­ways rid­ers who won both the events, one road and one track, to earn two gold medals here on Thurs­day.Rail­ways ace rider Haq Nawaz showed prow­ess and undy­ing zeal to win the most tough­est event of the premier ac­tiv­ity, the 100 kilo­me­tres road scratch race held at DHA Phase-VI Raya road.

He de­fied ad­verse hot weather con­di­tions and a strong chal­lenge from Pun­jab and Bal­cohsi­tan cy­clists to emerge vic­to­ri­ous re­turn­ing a tim­ing of 2H:56M:06S. He showed great an­tic­i­pa­tion and courage to touch the fin­ish line with vis­i­ble lead. Nasir Ali of Pun­jab and Kashif Bashir of Sindh took the sec­ond and third place re­spec­tively.

Rail­ways rid­ers proved their dom­i­nance at the track as well when its team com­pris­ing Haq Nawaz, Abu Bakkar, Asher and Zameer won the 4 kilo­me­tre team pur­suit at the cycling velo­drome.

Haq Nawaz con­tin­ued to un­der­line his cycling tal­ent by play­ing a vi­tal role in his teams suc­cess as Rail­ways rid­ers took 40M:08S:42P to claim their sec­ond gold of the day.—APP
