Ur­ban Search, Res­cue Unit to get more staff

Ab­dul Qayum Soomro, Ar­shad Vohra and oth­ers are also seen in the pic­ture.—PO photo KARACHI—The Ur­ban Search and Res­cue Unit of Mu­nic­i­pal Ser­vices Depart­ment of KMC would be im­proved on mod­ern lines with in­creased staff to pro­vide in­stant help to cit­i­zens dur­ing any emer­gency sit­u­a­tion.

This was stated by KMC Ad­min­is­tra­tor Laeeq Ahmed while lis­ten­ing to prob­lems of staff work­ing in the ur­ban search and res­cue unit of MS depart­ment dur­ing a Khuli Kachehri held at his of­fice, said a state­ment is­sued here on Thurs­day.

On this oc­ca­sion, cit­i­zens in good num­bers as well as em­ploy­ees of KMC met the Ad­min­is­tra­tor of KMC and in­formed him about their prob­lems. The Ad­min­is­tra­tor giv­ing ap­proval of the ex­ten­sion in the con­tract ap­point­ment of the staff of Search and Res­cue cen­ter said in­crease in their salary will also be con­sid­ered.

He said this unit of MS per­form very important job to save the lives and prop­erty of cit­i­zens in any calamity or mishap, thus more staff will be pro­vided to them with up­grade fa­cil­i­ties.

The Search and Res­cue Unit of MC depart­ment of KMC was es­tab­lished by the NDMA with a vi­sion to pro­vide im­me­di­ate search and res­cue fa­cil­ity to the cit­i­zens of Karachi when­ever it needed. The ex­perts from NDMA trained a staff of 50 work­ers for this unit.

Se­nior Di­rec­tor MS mu­nic­i­pal ser­vices Ma­sood Alam, Se­nior Di­rec­tor HRM Javed Rahim and other of­fi­cers were also present on this oc­ca­sion. Ear­lier peo­ple in good num­ber met the KMC Ad­min­is­tra­tor in con­nec­tion with their prob­lems re­gard­ing con­di­tion of roads, street lights, dump­ing of garbage and waste.

Laeeq Ahmed is­sued, on the spot, di­rec­tives to of­fi­cers con­cerned for im­me­di­ate res­o­lu­tion to th­ese prob­lems. With re­gard to award­ing con­tract ap­point­ment to chil­dren of for­mer KMC em­ploy­ees, pro­mo­tion mat­ters and pay­ment of pen­sions he said all ef­forts will be made to solve ev­ery valid prob­lem of em­ploy­ees on pref­er­en­tial ba­sis.

He said dis­burse­ment of pay and pen­sions was top pri­or­ity af­ter which fo­cus on seek­ing im­me­di­ate so­lu­tion to city prob­lems and then im­ple­men­ta­tion on long term up­lift works was given pref­er­ence. The Ad­min­is­tra­tor said we have lined up ev­ery­thing and soon cit­i­zens would feel re­lief with re­gard to their prob­lems.—APP photo
