Urban Search, Rescue Unit to get more staff

This was stated by KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed while listening to problems of staff working in the urban search and rescue unit of MS department during a Khuli Kachehri held at his office, said a statement issued here on Thursday.
On this occasion, citizens in good numbers as well as employees of KMC met the Administrator of KMC and informed him about their problems. The Administrator giving approval of the extension in the contract appointment of the staff of Search and Rescue center said increase in their salary will also be considered.
He said this unit of MS perform very important job to save the lives and property of citizens in any calamity or mishap, thus more staff will be provided to them with upgrade facilities.
The Search and Rescue Unit of MC department of KMC was established by the NDMA with a vision to provide immediate search and rescue facility to the citizens of Karachi whenever it needed. The experts from NDMA trained a staff of 50 workers for this unit.
Senior Director MS municipal services Masood Alam, Senior Director HRM Javed Rahim and other officers were also present on this occasion. Earlier people in good number met the KMC Administrator in connection with their problems regarding condition of roads, street lights, dumping of garbage and waste.
Laeeq Ahmed issued, on the spot, directives to officers concerned for immediate resolution to these problems. With regard to awarding contract appointment to children of former KMC employees, promotion matters and payment of pensions he said all efforts will be made to solve every valid problem of employees on preferential basis.
He said disbursement of pay and pensions was top priority after which focus on seeking immediate solution to city problems and then implementation on long term uplift works was given preference. The Administrator said we have lined up everything and soon citizens would feel relief with regard to their problems.—APP photo
