Water cool­ers, ceil­ing fans be made op­er­a­tional in jails: IG

LA­HORE— In­spec­tor Gen­eral Prisons Pun­jab, Mian Fa­rooq Nazeer has di­rected all re­gional DIGs and Su­per­in­ten­dents of Jail that all cold water cool­ers and ceil­ing fans in­stalled in the bar­racks must be op­er­a­tional through­out the sum­mer sea­son.

While talk­ing to this sub­scribe he said that all range DIGs and Su­per­in­ten­dents Jails have also been di­rected to en­sure avail­abil­ity of hy­gienic drink­ing cold water and pro­vi­sion of suf­fi­cient water in all bath rooms at­tached to bar­racks.

He warned that all bar­racks es­pe­cially kitchen and hos­pi­tal must be kept neat and clean and 100 per cent best qual­ity of food be served to in­mates strictly in ac­cor­dance with jail man­ual.

He said Su­per­in­ten­dent of Jail con­cerned must per­son­ally check the qual­ity of food daily es­pe­cially chicken be­fore serv­ing to in­mates.

The IG fur­ther warned that they would be held re­spon­si­ble for any se­cu­rity lapse if any. He said in view of the pre­vail­ing cir­cum­stances in the coun­try, se­cu­rity in and around all 36 jails had been beefed up be­sides round- the- clock pa­trolling on sen­si­tive places by armed con­tin­gents.

Mian Fa­rooq Nazeer said the se­cu­rity net­work has been de­vised on mod­ern lines equipped with me­tal de­tec­tors, screen­ing ma­chines while close- cir­cuit cam­eras and jam­mers had al­ready been in­stalled at jails to check the en­try of unau­tho­rised items and con­tra­band ar­ti­cles in jail premises be­sides arms and am­mu­ni­tion.

DIG, La­hore Range, Ma­lik Mubashar Khan said that ac­cord­ing to the new se­cu­rity plan, no vis­i­tor is al­lowed to en­ter jail premises with­out orig­i­nal iden­tity card af­ter ver­i­fi­ca­tion by the in­mate. He said the record of all vis­i­tors is be­ing main­tained daily and meet­ings with in­mates would be al­lowed strictly in ac­cor­dance with jail man­ual.

Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Cen­tral Jail, Kot­lakh­pat Asad Javed War­ri­ach when con­tacted told Pak­istan Ob­server that cold water is avail­able to all in­mates in bar­racks while Su­per­in­ten­dent Camp Jail, La­hore Shahram Tauqir Khan told this sub­scribe that a spe­cial fil­ter water plant is cater­ing to cold water needs of all pris­on­ers.
