Water coolers, ceiling fans be made operational in jails: IG
LAHORE— Inspector General Prisons Punjab, Mian Farooq Nazeer has directed all regional DIGs and Superintendents of Jail that all cold water coolers and ceiling fans installed in the barracks must be operational throughout the summer season.
While talking to this subscribe he said that all range DIGs and Superintendents Jails have also been directed to ensure availability of hygienic drinking cold water and provision of sufficient water in all bath rooms attached to barracks.
He warned that all barracks especially kitchen and hospital must be kept neat and clean and 100 per cent best quality of food be served to inmates strictly in accordance with jail manual.
He said Superintendent of Jail concerned must personally check the quality of food daily especially chicken before serving to inmates.
The IG further warned that they would be held responsible for any security lapse if any. He said in view of the prevailing circumstances in the country, security in and around all 36 jails had been beefed up besides round- the- clock patrolling on sensitive places by armed contingents.
Mian Farooq Nazeer said the security network has been devised on modern lines equipped with metal detectors, screening machines while close- circuit cameras and jammers had already been installed at jails to check the entry of unauthorised items and contraband articles in jail premises besides arms and ammunition.
DIG, Lahore Range, Malik Mubashar Khan said that according to the new security plan, no visitor is allowed to enter jail premises without original identity card after verification by the inmate. He said the record of all visitors is being maintained daily and meetings with inmates would be allowed strictly in accordance with jail manual.
Senior Superintendent Central Jail, Kotlakhpat Asad Javed Warriach when contacted told Pakistan Observer that cold water is available to all inmates in barracks while Superintendent Camp Jail, Lahore Shahram Tauqir Khan told this subscribe that a special filter water plant is catering to cold water needs of all prisoners.
