In­struc­tions is­sued for check­ing gas­tro, AWD

LA­HORE— Sec­re­tary Spe­cial­ized Health­care & Med­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion Depart­ment Pun­jab, Na­jam Ahmed Shah has is­sued in­struc­tions to all the Prin­ci­pals of Au­tonomous Med­i­cal In­sti­tu­tions, Med­i­cal Su­per­in­ten­dents of Teach­ing Hos­pi­tals, Heads of Chil­dren Hos­pi­tals in Pun­jab and the Vice Chan­cel­lor Fa­tima Jin­nah Med­i­cal Uni­ver­sity and Chair­man/ Dean Sheikh Zayed Med­i­cal Com­plex La­hore to take all nec­es­sary steps and ef­fec­tive mea­sures for pre­ven­tion, de­tec­tion and man­age­ment of sea­sonal food born dis­eases like Gas­troen­teri­tis and Acute Watery Di­ar­rhoea ( AWD).

They have been asked to op­er­a­tional­ize epi­demi­o­log­i­cal mea­sures ac­cord­ing to the in­ter­na­tional pro­to­col and prompt qual­ity care to the pa­tients. Due to the use of sub­stan­dard drinks and un­hy­gienic food items in sum­mer, lot of pa­tients of acute water di­ar­rhoea and gas­troen­teri­tis are re­ported ev­ery year.

There­fore, ef­fec­tive di­ag­nos­tic and treat­ment fa­cil­i­ties for such pa­tients should be en­sured in all the hos­pi­tals. A no­ti­fi­ca­tion is­sued to the all con­cerned au­thor­i­ties in which it is stated that en­tries of all such pa­tients on PITB dash­board through the data en­try op­er­a­tors should be done on daily ba­sis.

The of­fi­cers have been asked to dis­play ban­ners at each hos­pi­tal in­di­cat­ing avail­abil­ity of medicines for gas­troen­teri­tis pa­tients. Also en­sure avail­abil­ity of suf­fi­cient quan­tity of in­tra­venous flu­ids and other medicines in hos­pi­tals stock. All con­cerned have been asked to en­sure en­force­ment of the req­ui­site Stan­dard Op­er­at­ing Pro­ce­dures in let­ter and spirit and sub­mit daily sit­u­a­tion re­port to the Health Depart­ment.
