FMC Int’l Squash C’ship from May 2

LA­HORE— The 4th FMC In­ter­na­tional Men’s Squash Cham­pi­onship 2016 will roll into ac­tion from May 2 here at the Pun­jab Squash Com­plex.

This was an­nounced by FMC Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor Fa­rooq Shahid at a press con­fer­ence here on Fri­day at the Na­tional Hockey Sta­dium au­di­to­rium on Fri­day. Pres­i­dent, Pun­jab Squash As­so­ci­a­tion ( PSA), Ma­lik Am­jad Noon, Sec­re­tary Shi­raz Saleem, Vice Pres­i­dent Ad­min Rana Tariq were also present on the oc­ca­sion.

Fa­rooq Shahid said that the FMC had been spon­sor­ing the event for the last four years to achieve a col­lec­tive cause of pro­mo­tion of squash. “We have also spon­sored a great num­ber of ju­nior and se­nior squash events and we are keen to pa­tron­ize this game which Pak­istan had ruled for many decades,” he added.

Re­veal­ing the prize money of the tour­na­ment, Fa­rooq Shahid said: “The prize money US Dol­lars 15,000 is good enough to at­tract top lo­cal and in­ter­na­tional squash play­ers. I hope the lo­cal play­ers will work hard, ex­cel in the tour­na­ment and earn hand­some prize money as well as lau­rels for the coun­try.”

PSA Pres­i­dent Ma­lik Am­jad Noon thanked the FMC for spon­sor­ing squash and hoped they would con­tinue their sup­port in fu­ture too for the pro­mo­tion of the game. “Pak­istan has ruled the world of squash for a long pe­riod and it is the part of our en­de­vour to pro­vide our play­ers each and ev­ery fa­cil­ity to groom them well and help them in re­gain­ing the lost squash glory.”

PSA Sec­re­tary Shi­raz Saleem said that this tour­na­ment was ap­proved by Pro­fes­sional Squash As­so­ci­a­tion ( PSA) and will help the play­ers in im­prov­ing in­ter­na­tional rank­ing of the na­tional play­ers.

“The qual­ity of our squash has been im­prov­ing with each pass­ing day and it is our top pri­or­ity to not only pro­vide max­i­mum lo­cal as well as in­ter­na­tional events to our play­ers so that they may re­main busy in healthy com­pe­ti­tions and ex­cel at in­ter­na­tional level.”

PSA vice pres­i­dent ad­min Tariq Rana and sec­re­tary Shi­raz Saleem wel­comed the par­tic­i­pants of the tour­na­ment who reached the city to fea­ture in the qual­i­fy­ing round of the tour­na­ment. As per PSA rank­ing, Farhan Za­man is top seed while Tayyab As­lam is se­cond seed, Khawaja Adim Maq­bool third, Farhan Mah­boob fourth and Asim Khan is fifth seed in the tour­na­ment.
