LAHORE— Eight matches were de­cided in the first qual­i­fy­ing round of the 4th FMC In­ter­na­tional Men’s Squash Cham­pi­onship 2016 here at the Pun­jab Squash Com­plex on Mon­day.

In the first match of the first qual­i­fy­ing round, top seed Bi­lal Zakir took just 14 min­utes to out­class Kashif Arif by 11/ 3, 11/ 2, 11/ 3. Kashif has no an­swers of pow­er­ful shots of Bi­lal who played qual­ity squash and out­played his op­po­nents com­pletely. he started the match well and just lost four points to win the first game 11/ 4. The sec­ond game proved eas­ier for him as he won it 11/ 3 while although he faced some re­sis­tance in the third game, yet he man­aged to win the game 11/ 6 to regis­ter an easy vic­tory.

The sec­ond match also proved an easy af- fair for Raees Khan who out­paced Asif Khalil 11/ 4, 11/ 3, 11/ 6 in 24 min­utes. In the third match, Waqas Me­hboob proved too hot for M Ibrahim No­rani rout­ing him by 11/ 4, 11/ 7, 11/ 4 in 15 min­utes. Aqib Hanif played quite well against Syed Ali Bukhari and thumped him 11/ 6, 11/ 6, 11/ 7 in 24 min­utes in the fourth match.

The fifth match of the day proved a marathon en­counter fought be­tween M Naeem and Faraz Muham­mad which the for­mer won the by 7/ 11, 13/ 11, 11/ 6, 11/ 7 af­ter a hard- fought battle of 42 min­utes. In the sixth match of the day, Mehran Javed edged out Ch Nasir An­war in just 15 min­utes by 11/ 2, 11/ 3, 11/ 5 while Kashif Asif out­lasted Sal­man Saleem 11/ 3, 11/ 6, 11/ 6 in 23 min­utes and Zee­shan Khan beat Moin Rauf 9/ 11, 7/ 11, 11/ 7, 11/ 5, 11/ 9 in the last marathon en­counter of 46 min­utes.
