In­dus­trial de­vel­op­ment only way to pros­per­ity, sta­bil­ity: Jha­gra

PESHAWAR—The Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Gover­nor Engr. Iqbal za­far Jha­gra has said that mak­ing the youth of Pak­istan skil­ful means pro­vid­ing them with op­por­tu­ni­ties to gain fi­nan­cial in­de­pen­dence ad­ding that tech­no­log­i­cal ad­vance­ment and in­dus­trial de­vel­op­ment is the only path to pros­per­ity and sta­bil­ity for any na­tion.

He said that our skilled youth was very talented and hoped that our youth will take Pak­istan for­ward on strong foot­ings. Our hu­man cap­i­tal is our big­gest as­set and it would be most ap­pro­pri­ate if this as­set is prop­erly uti­lized by giv­ing them tech­ni­cal and vo­ca­tional train­ings. This will not only help their fam­i­lies but boost their self- es­teem and con­fi­dence as well, he added.

He was ad­dress­ing the prize dis­tri­bu­tion cer­e­mony of Na­tional Skills Com­pe­ti­tion or­ga­nized by NAVTTC here in Peshawar on Wed­nes­day. The event was also at­tended by Ina Lepal, Ger­man Con­sulate, Jean­nette Sep­pen, Con­sulate for Nether­land , Jean Fran­cois Caw­tain, Con­sulate of Euro­pean Union, Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor, NAVTTC, Zul­fiqar Cheema, In­dus­tri­al­ists, Heads of Train­ing In­sti­tutes, Skilled Youth and oth­ers.

The skills selected for this com­pe­ti­tion were, beau­ti­cian, Dress Mak­ing, Fash­ion De­sign­ing, Tex­tile De­sign­ing Fine Arts, Cook-ing etc. Gover­nor dis­trib­uted cash prizes of Rs. 50,000/-, Rs. 30,000/- and Rs. 20,000/- amongst the 1st 2nd and 3rd po­si­tion hold­ers of each trade. On the occasion, the Gover­nor vis­ited and in­spected the stalls and ap­pre­ci­ated the work of trainees.

Ad­dress­ing the cer­e­mony, Gover­nor said Skilled Hu­man re­source is es­sen­tial for run­ning the wheels of In­dus­trial units con­stantly. He said tech­ni­cal train­ings can play a vi­tal role in the so­cial and eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment of our Coun­try. “A strong com­mit­ment by the Govern­ment of Pak­istan can en­sure that our youth is well ed­u­cated, trained and bet­ter equipped to en­ter in the job mar­ket with am­ple op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able to them, he said.

Gover­nor Iqbal Za­far Jha­gra said the in­cum­bent govern­ment has started var­i­ous youth skill de­vel­op­ment pro­grams out of which Prime Min­is­ter Youth Skill De­vel­op­ment Pro­gram is of much im­por­tance. Speak­ing on the occasion, Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor NAVTTC Zul­fiqar Ahmed Cheema high­lighted the im­por­tance of TVET, say­ing “equip­ping the youth with em­ploy­able skills is the only so­lu­tion to al­le­vi­ate poverty and un­em­ploy­ment in Pak­istan.”

He high­lighted a num­ber of achieve­ments in the area of TVET sec­tor re­form, which in­clude launch­ing of the na­tional TVET pol­icy, Na­tional Vo­ca­tional Qual­i­fi­ca­tions Frame­work, Com­pe­tency Based Train­ing, ac­cred­i­ta­tion of TVET pro­grammes and Na­tional Skills In­for­ma­tion Sys­tem. He ap­pre­ci­ated the sup­port of all the de­vel­op­ment part­ners for in­tro­duc­ing re­forms in the TVET sec­tor of Pak­istan.
