2 new sug­ar­cane va­ri­eties in­tro­duced

IS­LAM­ABAD—Pak­istan Agri­cul­tural Re­search Coun­cil (PARC) Chair­man Dr. Nadeem Am­jad while chair­ing a meet­ing with Se­nior Sci­en­tists at PARC (HQs) con­grat­u­lated the Dr. Ab­dul Fa­tah Soomro, Di­rec­tor Na­tional Sugar and Trop­i­cal Hor­ti­cul­ture Re­search In­sti­tute (NSTHRI) Thatta and his sci­en­tists team for in­tro­duc­ing and re­leas­ing two new sug­ar­cane va­ri­eties Thatta-2109 and Thatta326 for com­mer­cial cul­ti­va­tion.

Chair­man PARC said that the new sug­ar­cane va­ri­eties pos­sess high cane yield and sugar re­cov­ery po­ten­tial and a good ad­di­tion in ex­ist­ing pool of com­mer­cial sug­ar­cane va­ri­eties in Sindh as well as in the coun­try. On this occasion, he urged the se­nior sci­en­tists to pro­mote sci­ence cul­ture in PARC sys­tem and fo­cus their re­search to ad­dress the prob­lems of small farm­ers and to over­come the is­sues af­fect­ing the agri­cul­ture sec­tor in Pak­istan.
