Govt ex­tends due co­op­er­a­tion to EC: PM

MIRPUR (AJK),—The Prime Min­is­ter of Azad Jammu & Kash­mir (AJK) Ch Ab­dul Ma­jeed has said that his gov­ern­ment was fully co­op­er­at­ing with Elec­tion Com­mis­sion (EC) of the State for hold­ing free, fair and trans­par­ent gen­eral elec­tions in AJK due to be held this year.

Talk­ing to a pub­lic del­e­ga­tion at prime min­is­ter sec­re­tar­iat the Premier said that his gov­ern­ment be­lieved in trans­parency in democ­racy and will not let any group or party to hijack the pub­lic man­date in the polls.

Mean­while, Spe­cial As­sis­tant to Prime Min­is­ter Asif Kir­mani on Thurs­day said that Pakistan Mus­lim League (N) has yet not de­cided the award of party tick­ets to as­pir­ing can­di­dates for up­com­ing gen­eral elec­tions in Azad Kash­mir.

In a press state­ment Kir­mani said “PML-N has not yet taken any de­ci­sion to award tick­ets for Azad Kash­mir elec­tion.” Clar­i­fy­ing var­i­ous news re­ports on the sub­ject, Kir­mani said, there is no truth in such news items car­ried by sec­tions of the press. He said de­ci­sion for award­ing party tick­ets would be reached am­i­ca­bly af­ter a thor­ough con­sul­ta­tive process by Prime Min­is­ter Muham­mad Nawaz Sharif.—APP
