No­vak Djokovic won’t stay in Vil­lage for Rio Olympics

MADRID—No­vak Djokovic says he wants to win gold at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and will not be stay­ing at the ath­letes’ vil­lage dur­ing the games. Djokovic lost to sub­se­quent cham­pion Andy Mur­ray in the semi­fi­nals of the Lon­don Olympics in 2012, af­ter win­ning the bronze for Ser­bia in Bei­jing in 2008. The top-ranked Djokovic said Wed­nes­day he wanted ‘’more time to spend with ath­letes in the vil­lage’’ dur­ing the run-up to the games, as he ac­cli­ma­tized to con­di­tions. But once the Olympics from Aug. 5 to 21 got un­der­way, Djokovic said he would need ‘’my space and pri­vacy and peace for prac­tice’’ would stay else­where. Mur­ray will not be liv­ing in the Olympic Vil­lage in Rio, pre­fer­ring in­stead to stay at an apart­ment with the Bri­tish ten­nis team.—AP
