Pun­jab spend­ing bil­lions on clean drink­ing wa­ter: She­hbaz

SALIM AHMED LA­HORE— Pun­jab Chief Min­is­ter She­hbaz Sharif has said that Saaf Pani Project is of paramount im­por­tance and Pun­jab gov­ern­ment is spend­ing bil­lions of ru­pees on pro­vi­sion of clean drink­ing wa­ter to the cit­i­zens.

He was pre­sid­ing over a high- level meet­ing, here on Sun­day in which progress on var­i­ous mat­ters re­gard­ing the project were re­viewed. Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer Saaf Pani Com­pany gave a de­tailed brief­ing re­gard­ing the project.

He said that Saaf Pani Project will be com­pleted un­der a phased pro­gramme and no ef­fort will be spared in speedy com­ple­tion of this im­por­tant project. The Chief Min­is­ter said that best com­pa­nies of the world should be se­lected trans­par­ently for speedy im­ple­men­ta­tion of the project. He said that ad­ver­tise­ments should be pub­lished in for­eign me­dia for pre- qual­i­fi­ca­tion of com­pa­nies. He said that road show should be held abroad in con­nec­tion with Saaf Pani Project and best international com­pa­nies be in­vited in road show or sem­i­nar.

The Chief Min­is­ter, ad­dress­ing the meet­ing through video link, said that pro­vi­sion of potable wa­ter to the cit­i­zens is of ut­most sig­nif­i­cance which will be com­pleted through co­or­di­nated ef­forts. He said that Saaf Pani Project is vi­tal in sav­ing the cit­i­zens against dis­eases and con­sti­tut­ing of a healthy so­ci­ety and all out funds will be pro­vided for this project.

He said that ev­ery cit­i­zen has right over clean drink­ing wa­ter and Pun­jab gov­ern­ment will give this right to the cit­i­zens. She­hbaz Sharif di­rected to en­sure pro­vi­sion of clean drink­ing wa­ter on pri­or­ity ba­sis in the dis­tricts of South Pun­jab in the first phase and added that such ar­eas should be se­lected where there is dire need of clean drink­ing wa­ter.

He said that a road show should be con­ducted in Dubai and ex­perts from im­por­tant coun­tries in­clud­ing China, Amer­ica and Europe should be in­vited and com­pa­nies hav­ing ex­per­tise in pro­vi­sion of clean drink­ing wa­ter should be in­vited.

The Chief Min­is­ter or­dered to con­sti­tute a com­mit­tee headed by Pro­vin­cial Hous­ing Min­is­ter and Chief Sec­re­tary which will take de­ci­sions re­gard­ing im­por­tant mat­ters of Saaf Pani Project. He said that there should be an ef­fec­tive mech­a­nism of mon­i­tor­ing for the project. He said that Saaf Pani Project is a pub­lic wel­fare project and its hun­dred per­cent qual­ity should be en­sured. He said that this project should be for­warded on pri­or­ity ba­sis in the ar­eas fac­ing se­ri­ous prob­lem of potable wa­ter. He said that projects like Saaf Pani Project are high ex­am­ple of spend­ing re­sources on masses. He said that Pun­jab gov­ern­ment will make round the clock ef­forts for com­ple­tion of Saaf Panji Project.
