Punjab health deptt appointments thru NTS
MUHAMMAD SULEMAN LAHORE—For the first time in history of Punjab, the Health Department Punjab has made competition exams compulsory for the appointment of Executive District Officers (EDOs) and Medical Superintendent of District Headquarters Hospitals and in this regard the department has taken the services of National Testing Service (NTS).
A well-placed source in the department told this scribe that all the incumbent Director Health Services (DHS), Executive District Officers (EDOsHealth), District Officer Health (DOH), Medical Superintendent (MS) for District Headquarters Hospitals (DHQs) and Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals (THQs) and Deputy District officers (Health) will be transferred to other available posts equivalent to their grades while new aspirant candidates who pass NTS will be appointed in their place.
According to our source, Primary & Secondary Healthcare (P&SHC) Department has taken services of National Testing Service (NTS) for this purpose and all interested candidates must appear in the test. Candidates having at least 50 % marks of test shall be deemed eligible for further consideration in selection process. In case of selection, private practice shall not be allowed to all the newly appointed health managers. Furthermore, no new appointment will be made through provincial search committee.
The source said that P&SHC Department intended to establish a pool of eligible personnel from amongst existing regular employees of P&SHC Department/ Specialized Healthcare & Medial Education department through a fair, transparent, competitive and merit based process.
He said these officers shall draw their regular salary as per admissible pay scale of government policy, in addition performance linked special incentive shall also be as Rs 80,000 for BS 20, Rs 60,000 for BS 19, Rs 50,000 for BS 18 and Rs 40,000 for BS 17.
According to eligibility criteria, a candidate having MBBS with Master’s degree in health administration or public health or any other degree in medical sciences or management/ administration/ accounts/ commerce with must have at least 10 years relevant experience can apply for the post of DHS, MS DHQs and EDO (Health). He said for the post of District Officer (Health) candidate must have MBBS with Master’s degree in health administration or public health or any other degree in medical sciences or management/ administration/ accounts/ commerce besides at least 5 years relevant experience.
