Dar chairs meet­ing to re­view FATA schools upgra­da­tion

IS­LAM­ABAD—Fed­eral Fi­nance Min­is­ter Sen­a­tor Mo­ham­mad Ishaq Dar chaired a meet­ing here on Tues­day to dis­cuss mat­ters re­lat­ing to up-gra­da­tion of school and col­lege teach­ers in FATA.

Ad­di­tional Chief Sec­re­tary FATA Sec­re­tar­iat, briefed the meet­ing on the pro­posed up-gra­da­tion of the teach­ers of FATA and stated that the is­sue had re­mained un­re­solved since 2012 and was cre­at­ing un­rest among the teach­ers of the area. He stated that over 20,000 teach­ers all over FATA would ben­e­fit from the upgra­da­tion.

The Fi­nance Min­is­ter on this oc­ca­sion stated that the present gov­ern­ment had re­solved a num­ber of lin­ger­ing is­sues. Ed­u­ca­tion and teach­ers’ wel­fare is a pri­or­ity of Prime Min­is­ter Nawaz Sharif. He said that teach­ers should be ap­pro­pri­ately com­pen­sated for their ser­vices to the so­ci­ety. He said that the de­lay in timely de­ci­sion mak­ing had cre- ated a huge fi­nan­cial li­a­bil­ity, how­ever in or­der to re­solve the is­sue and meet the long­stand­ing de­mand of the teach­ers of FATA, the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment agrees to the up-gra­da­tion of teach­ers in ac­cor­dance with the 4-tier for­mula, with ef­fect from 01.07.2012. He di­rected the Fi­nance Di­vi­sion and FATA Sec­re­tar­iat to work out the modal­i­ties of im­ple­men­ta­tion of the de­ci­sion.

Pub­lic Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of FATA thanked the Fi­nance Min­is­ter for re­solv­ing the long­stand­ing is­sue. They in­vited at­ten­tion of the Fi­nance Min­is­ter to­wards re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of TDPs and re­con­struc­tion in af­fected ar­eas of FATA. Fi­nance Min­is­ter as­sured that re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of TDPs and re­con­struc­tion of FATA is a pri­or­ity and fi­nan­cial re­sources re­quired for the pur­pose are be­ing pro­vided to FATA sec­re­tar­iat with­out any de­lay.—NNI
