PARC, ZTBL join hands to uplift poor farmers
ISLAMABAD—A high level delegation from Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) Wednesday visited National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) to promote cooperation between the two organizations for uplifting the socio-economic condition of poor farmers. The delegation was headed by Executive VicePresident, Planning Research and Technology Division (PRTD), Farhat Karim Hashmi. According to a press statement issued here, the purpose of the visit was to enhance cooperation for promotion and transfer of modern agriculture technologies, new varieties of crops, machinery and scientific knowledge to small farmers to increase production of agriculture sector.
This would help meet the national goal of food security and uplift the socio-economic condition of poor and small farmers of the country, it added. PARC Chairman, Dr. Nadeem Amjid and other senior officials of the council briefed the visiting delegation about the ongoing activities of the council. The delegation members were apprised that besides promoting agricultural research, PARC was also developing capacity of the agricultural research and extension staff of provinces and farmers of the country to improve agro-livestock production in the country on modern lines.
On the occasion, ZTBL Executive VicePresident and other delegation members expressed their interest in PARC technologies for cooperation to transfer new varieties of field and horticultural crops, small machinery and other innovations to small farmers and seed production program to serve the needs of the farming community to enhance the production of agriculture sector in Pakistan.
