Heat­stroke camps to re­main func­tional for next 3 months

KARACHI—The Ad­min­is­tra­tor District Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (DMC) Malir Tariq Hus­sain Mughal has said the heat­stroke camps have been es­tab­lished in Malir’s pub­lic places for a pe­riod of 3 months.

He said the camps would pro­vide cold drink­ing water and pack­ets of ORS to the peo­ple tak­ing shel­ter from the heat.

In a press re­lease is­sued here Wed­nes­day, Mughal said the staff had been warned that their neg­li­gence with re­gard to pro­vi­sion of the re­quired fa­cil­i­ties to the masses at the camps would not be tol­er­ated.

Ac­com­pa­nied by Mu­nic­i­pal Com­mis­sioner Man­zoor Hus­sain Ab­bassi, the ad­min­is­tra­tor vis­ited several camps and asked the cit­i­zens about the fa­cil­i­ties. The ad­min­is­tra­tor em­pha­sized for car­ry­ing out a pub­lic aware­ness cam­paign about pre­ven­tion from heat­stroke.

The ad­min­is­tra­tor di­rected the Fo­cal Per­son DMC Ja­mal Nasir to is­sue show cause no­tices to the staff who were not per­form­ing their as­signed du­ties at the camps. He said the staff’s at­ten­dance at the camps should be en­sured from 11 am to 5 pm.

The fo­cal per­sons in­formed Mughal that the camps had been set up at Malir 15, Kala Board, Har­main Cho­rangi, Saud­abad, Model Colony and Bakra Piri ar­eas. He added that cold drink­ing water, ORS, glu­cose and bev­er­ages had been made avail­able at the camps.

As many as 5 staffers from DMC and vol­un­teers from Scouts had been as­signed duty at each camp while pam­phlets con­tain­ing in­for­ma­tion about pre­ven­tion from heat­stroks were also be­ing dis­trib­uted, he ap­prised.—APP
