Need for Poliofree Pakistan

Pakistan Observer - - OPINION -

While there are countries like India and Nigeria that have been declared Polio-free by WHO in last few years, there are only two countries where polio is still endemic: Pakistan and Afghanistan and vaccination workers in Pakistan are still being killed by the Taliban.

The incident of seven police officers shot dead while providing security to polio workers was deplorable. Until polio is globally eradicated, all countries are at risk, and the region’s polio-free status remains fragile. Once polio is eradicated, the world can celebrate the delivery of a major global public good that will benefit all people equally, no matter where they live. —Via email
